I was searching the net, and ran into this really cool looking boa that I’ve never heard of before. Any have any info on these guys (care, rarity, availability)
They look like they'd be amazing snakes to keep...

viper boa.. difficult to acclimate as most are wild caught.. healthy specimens make good additions.. still, pretty sensitive snakes.

Almost have the pattern of a Ball Python?
Beautiful though!

I don't know of anyone actually working with them, but Roy Stockwell breeds Solomon Island Ground boas, which are quite similar http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54211. A good page to check out is Jerry Conway's http://www.king snake.com/candoia/. He produces some crazy looking ground boas in the states.

I have one of these boa's, which I may be selling soon. I bought him at Fish Pro's here in town (Amarillo, TX), and am not aware of his life with his previous owner.
However, he did bite me the other night, for the first time, and since I've read that they only need to eat once every 3-4 weeks, it could be that he was simply hungry. I'm going to test that theory by feeding him tomorrow, and then waiting about a day and picking him up again and provoking him just a tiny, tiny bit. Of course, that won't prove my theory right or wrong - it'll take several sessions.
I simply have no desire to keep, or even be arround agressive snakes. I prefer the termperment of my ball python. That snake is probably the most laid back guy on the planet. He just doesn't care as long as he gets food and water. lol. My red tail on the other hand is a little more "wild". The previous owner said she used to reach into his cramped cage and pick him up by the head, then wonder why the snake bit her. I'm working with him though and he's making excellent progress.
This viper boa is still somewhat questionable. The bites don't hurt, and they draw very little, if no, blood at all. I plan to work with him for a bit longer, and if his attitude doesn't change pretty quickly, I might sell him. I wouldn't be asking much. Maybe 100 bucks and you pay shipping. I paid 90 for him. I didn't have much of a choice though, as I couldn't find them for sale hardly anywhere online. It seems they aren't too popular or maybe they've just not been introduced into the pet trade much. I don't know. But if any of you are wanting one, I might be selling this one. So just let me know, and if I deside to sell him, I'll let you know.
He looks like the one in the top picture, and he's about MAYBE a foot long, maybe. I haven't actually measured him yet, come to think of it. He seems to be pretty healthy though.
