I just came from a friends house who got a boa from that website we all know. As soon as I saw it, I saw mites! We went out and bought some Permanone which is supposed to be the same as Provent-a-mite. I never used this stuff before, last time I had a case of mites was 2-3 years ago and I used a product called Black Knight.

I had him soak the snake in warm water while we bought the Permanone at Walmart. We emptied and cleaned the enclosure and sprayed some of this stuff in the cage (man this stuff smells strong). We sealed the cage and let it sit for 30 minutes and air dry for another hour. This stuff still smells strong, should I have him place the snake back in the cage now or wait a certain time?

I also read some good things about a lice product for humans called Nix. Any recommendation on either of these products on which is best?

I have used nix diluted with water and it works great.

We thought of getting Nix and I had it in my hands, but deceided to go with Permanone at the last minute since I read it was the same as Provent-a-mite which was the same as Black Knight.

Permanone is the same thing as Provent-a-mite, same active ingredients. It's like Advil and Ibuprofen. When I used BK on my own collection a few years back it worked like a charm! But I understand they stopped selling due to some legal actions with Provent-a-mite.

After reading a bit, we're going to use a combo of reptile relief on the snake and Permanone in the cage. Reptile Relief seems to only work if the liquid comes in contact with the mites, Permethrin the active ingredient in Permanone and Provent-a-mite kills mites for 2-4 weeks. I think with a treatment of Permethrin and 2-3 treatments of Reptile Relief should do the trick.
