I am just starting to order frozen mice and need major help. I am in south florida, i need a place close by to order from. The closest place was big cheese rodents. But shipping will be around 30-40 bucks. So either way it will winde up costing more then if i got them live. Can anyone help me out, and tell me the cheapest way and place to do this. Thankyou for any help, jon
How many snakes are you feeding? Shipping rodents only really saves money if you buy in large quantities. The shippers have to include dry ice and insulated boxes with the feeders to guarantee frozen arival. Paying for this boxes is a big extra charge when shipping.

Paying for 2 snakes. I figured if the mice can stay fresh for up to 2 years why not buy in large quanities for just these two snakes. If i can only find a place here in florida.

would you eat something that's been frozen for 2 years? hope not!
even deep freeze is about 6 months for them to stay good. so buying a lot of 50 mice wouldn't be worth it after shipping costs and all that.

A couple options might be to locate other herpers in your area and share an order or to go to one of the local reptile shows and purchase frozen rodents there. The prices on feeders at local herp shows here is about the same as if they are shipped and you save the shipping costs. You can also get smaller quantities if desired.

You can't find anyone in your vicinity that breeds rodents??? That is odd, usually in the wanted column of herp related forums turn up a small producer or two and that is in Canada.
I'd buy 6 months at a time. It will make things easier.
Put up a local wanted ad in your area, that might help. Or try rodentpro.com

Meat for humans can be stored in a freezer for up to about a year. It is still safe to eat after that, but the quality is lessened. Maybe I wouldn't eat 2 year old meat from my freezer, but it's because I am picky about quality, bot because it is unsafe.
There was a mammoth found frozen in Siberia that was sampled by humans. http://pao.gsfc.nasa.gov/gsfc/educ/science/2000/11-04-99.htm, This would have been at least 8000 years old, and possibly a lot older.

If the meat was vacum packed i would. I guess all these companys saying 2 years or more are wrong.
