I just want to let everyone know that I will be at the upcoming Ontario reptile expo and I will have plenty of our new 2005 Endangered Reptiles of Canada calendars available for sale. 75% of the proceeds from all calendar sales will go directly to the Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre (http://www.kawarthaturtle.org) and 25% will be used to fund reptile conservation research in Ontario.
The calendar is full colour and features original photography of Canada’s endangered reptiles from some of the finest reptile photographers around. The calendar features full page spreads on the top portion for the particular species of that month, as well as smaller photographs and descriptions of the animal on the lower portion.

Link to larger picture (3.5mb) (http://www.uoguelph.ca/~rjblab/ImagesNew/2005%20Calendar/Calendar%20Add%20black%20background%203.5%20MB.jpg )
The following species are featured in the calendar:
Eastern Fox Snake, Eastern Hog-nosed Snake, Massasauga Rattlesnake, Western Rattlesnake, Five-lined Skink, Spiny Softshell Turtle, Wood Turtle, Spotted Turtle, Blanding's Turtle, Stinkpot, Snapping Turtle, Eastern Yellow-Bellied Racer, Eastern (Black) Rat Snake, and the Great Basin Gopher Snake.
The calendars are $15 each and, as mentioned, this money will pay for the much needed medical assistance for road injured turtles in Ontario.
A quote from the Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre’s website:
“Dr. Ron Brooks, professor at the University of Guelph, warns that even the loss of 1-2% of adults annually from the "extra" mortality of roadkill can, and will, inevitably push turtle populations toward extinction.”
Another:
“Six of the eight species [of Ontario's turtles] have been identified by COSEWIC (the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada) as being at risk.”
It is our responsibility to do everything in our power to prevent the loss of these species.
So please stop by the Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre table and purchase one of these beautiful calendars, they’re only $15 and you will be contributing to the survival of our native turtles.
I look forward to seeing you all at the show!
Thanks,
Ryan

Thanks Heather!
I discussed doing this with Matt K and he was very helpful, suggesting also to move this to the top of the forum. I sent him the link to the post today but you beat him to it! We were going to keep it up here until just after the show.
Anyway, thanks to the both of you! I have calendars with each of your names on them ;)
Cheers,
Ryan

They sure can! We will even ship to the US and beyond should anyone outside of Canada wish to purchase.
Just send an e-mail to brookslab@hotmail.com and instructions will be e-mailed to you, postage will be very cheap within Canada with Canada Post (we're talking cents here not dollars).
You can also phone the Brooks' Lab at 1-519-824-4120 Extension: 58360.
Either way, we're trying to keep track of who is selling what so if you do contact our lab PLEASE, please mention who referred you - in this case, me, Ryan Bolton ;)
Thanks so much for everyone's interest!
Ryan

Ryan, for those of us who won't be at the November show -- what methods of payment are you accepting? Should we just mail in a cheque, or are we able to do an email money transfer, or... ?

It looks like a beautiful calendar, and a great cause -- I definitely hope to get one! :)

Hi Jen!

For mail-order calendars, the only payment we can accept right now is a personal cheque (I am certain that a money-order wouldn't be a problem either). Basically, once you e-mail brookslab@hotmail.com you will receive a reply with all of the instructions for ordering. I won't be doing any of the mailing out of calendars so that's why I have to send you to the girl who is doing this. We have 2000 calendars so we need to have all orders go through one person so that she can ensure that everyone who has sent a cheque will get their calendar. However, as mentioned, we do have more than a few people advertising and selling calendars so we would like to keep track of who is selling what - so when you e-mail our lab make sure to include the name of whomever directed you.

So, basically, in the reply e-mail you will be instructed to please make cheques payable to Ron J. Brooks, you will be given an address to mail the cheques to, and you will be asked to please provide us with an address where the calendars are to be sent. Once we receive your cheque and confirmation of how many you have ordered we will send you your calendars!

Thanks everyone

Thank you Ryan and the entire Brooks Lab ,and to Heather, Matt and Ssnakess.com for your support. I look forward to seeing this years calendar. This is an excellent fundraising effort by the Brooks lab, and I believe that last years calendar sold out quickly.

Ryan, who are some of the photographers who contributed? Lets give them some credit for their efforts. Thanks again everyone.

Let's see, well I know I am one of the photographers, Joe Crowley as well, Scott Gillingwater has a couple in there I believe. Until I see the final printed copy I can't be sure who all was included (I can list them when I get to see the final calendar - should be ready in a week). However, you can have a look here (http://www.uoguelph.ca/~rjblab/gradstudentsNT.htm) and see all the personnel in the lab who are involved with the calendar somehow, either by submitting photographical work, distributing calendars, putting the calendar together, or all of the above.
I'd also like to thank Josh Feltham from Reptilia (http://www.reptilia.org) who is allowing me to bring some calendars into the store to be sold to his customers.
Cheers,
Ryan

Hey Trev, I sent an e-mail to Phung to make sure she got your e-mail, I will post her reply here ASAP!
Thanks,
Ryan
P.S. We still don't have the calendars, they are ready but they need to be picked up from the printers, perhaps she has held off replying until we actually have the product... I will let everyone know as soon as I find out.

Okay, well it looks like I have volunteered myself to be the pickup/delivery boy so I will have the calendars in Guelph on Monday (15th) so they can start mailing them out at that time!

Trevor, I spoke with Phung and she told me she has an order from a Trevor F___ (don't want to reveal the (your?) last name), I am assuming that this is your order. It says that a reply was sent to you but she sent another one just in case the last one got lost in cyber-space ;)
Cheers,
Ryan

Okay,
I picked up the first 500 calendars today from the printers and they are awesome! Completely exceeded my expectations! They look like something you'd buy from the mall, same type of heavy calendar paper. The pictures are amazing, wow, they just look great and I can't wait to see everyone's reaction at the show.
I did a little volunteer stint at the KTTC today and the poor turtles really need this money. $15 for these amazing calendars is soooo worth it... It would break your heart to see some of these turtles with their broken jaws, cracked shells, etc. And with the money raised from these calendars we will be able to ensure that these injured turtles make a full recovery and get back out there so they can continue making babies :)
The KTTC not only needs this money for the various medical supplies, etc, but even the little things like lights, food, tubs, etc, cost money. So please help out the turtles, these calendars are only $15!
See you at the show.

Hey Ryan, I was going to pick up 2 at the Expo but... damned Santa Clause Parade is the same day. Guess I will catch the next one. Anyway I will pick up copies at Reptilia next time I'm in there. It looks great and I'm planning to give them away as Christmas presents

Hi Doug,
Sorry you'll miss the show, but you can definitely pick a couple up at Reptilia... I hope to have some copies for Josh after the show, sometime early next week.
