I was given this picture by my sister in law so sorry for the poor quality.

Reports have it that the snake was run over on a road that houses the dog sleigh teams. It measured in at 14 feet with a girth of 8.5 inches. I have no clue as to who owned it or how it got out, or even how long it was out for.

This is in the Northern Community of Thompson, Manitoba...

I live in Northern Manitoba (canada) above the 54th parrallel, about 7.5 hours North from Winnipeg and i only know of one or two people who have snakes but now obviosly there are more. there are no wild snakes here either.

This is an example of what could happen if people in the herp community aren't careful and draw bad press. The image of all of us is marred by things like this.

I dont even know whos it is and i live here, and ive been searching for other snake owners for about six months and have only turned up with a few which they only keep kings and corns. I just hope this doesnt bring a bad out come, like a bylaw or something against snakes.

you know that will all depend on your community. communitys can be ridiculous sometimes. Especiall community associations(not to be prejudace) that are made up by retirees and house wifes that have nothing to do and look for this type of opportunity. The good point is that your town decided to use it in their museum - that shows a great deal of interest in this occurance, however headlines can have an equally divided response. Good luck in Thompson Lindze!

Well to just to give you an idea of my city. The mayor brought in a city wide smoking ban with lots of expense in July, when the province was bringing in one in October if he would have waited he wouldnt have to pay nearly as many expenses.....the mayor here is only out to please the important people, and trust me the important people aint liking this at all.
I agree that some of the people are taking an interest but thats only a majority.

P.s. Just to point out, There are few house wives here and even less retirees....the like to go south where its warmer:)

Considering that the story made the news and was doubtless on the news wire, I doubt the "important" people will be liking that either.....................
