If you really like horror movies you should check out 'the eye'
you can probably rent it at blockbuster - its subtitled but wow its pretty scarey
Okay guys.. If yer into horror check this trailer out... gave me goosebumps :)

I've seen both original Japanese versions, and they are SCARY!...
I own the Eye (got it from Amazon.ca), it's also pretty good but I don't think it's nearly as 'scar-you-for-life' scary as the Grudge :D
so heather they are even scarier than the eye - good to hear!

Likely a DVD thing for me too. Horror is better in the quiet of your own home.
Oh and I an so ashamed I am late in saying
WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!
Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Mummy and The Invisible Man collections are out on DVD as of the 19th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HeatherRose
10-22-04, 02:49 PM
Yup, DEFINITELY scarier than the Eye... remember in the Eye when the old man was floating towards the girl in the elevator? The whole movie is 340939483x scarier than that...I like it because it's subtly creepy in parts and so scary you can't watch in other parts :) I can't wait to go see it, it should make more sense than the one that was in all Japanese :p

Just got back from seeing it, its good! The Eye, The Ring and other movies shouldn't even be compared to this movie. If anyone has the chance to see it, go for it. Over all, great movie and you might want to bring a extra pair of underwear.
edit: theres two or manybe more sence that reminds me of The Ring.

Sam Raimi is THE MAN.
Well my DH and I are going to catch it tonight 10:15 showing!! Can't wait!! Planning on getting a hold of the originals Ju on too but have to wait a while. My husband had to watch Lion King after the Ring just to get to sleep so I'm guessing a night of disney will be required tonight after we get back from the Grudge! LOL.

Saw it tonight at 10:30. Truthfully, i think it was the scariest movie i've ever seen. There is not just a couple scary parts, the whole movie is scary from start to finish! I definately reccomend this movie for horror fans. Later.
Dan
I wasnt planning on watching this movie (it looked like an extended episode of Buffy), but now my curiosity is piqued. I loved the Ring.
Gary D.
10-23-04, 10:29 AM
The Ring did not work for me at all. Personally I was extremely disapointed and would have shut it off, but I was hoping for a good finish (which left me flat too). The more this is likened to the ring the more I know it will be a renter for me.

Watched the movie @ 8:25 last night, it was great, but it was a little disappointed, i guess i expected a little to much of the movie but all in all a great movie. The begging sure did start well! and there were a few creepy twists to the original plot. :D:D can't wait till it comes out on DVD going to buy it for sure, might even go out and see it again next week haha :D

10-23-04, 11:46 AM
Allan, I had to sit up front with the 2girls i was with. I thought the movie was pretty disappointing and some what boring. Most "scary parts" were way too predictable.

10-23-04, 12:00 PM
Man you gotta admit it was a lot better than the other crap out today. What movies that are out now actually scare us anywayz. It's was good enough for me, sure i expected more but meh... :P
Just saw it last night......and I thought I would jump out of my seat for the amount of times I jumped! The guy sitting next to me got a good laugh at how many times I screamed.
Freaked me right out and when I had to drive home at around 1230 at night it so foggy I couldn't even see 20 feet in front of me! Creeped me out even more

Lol i got a good laugh from all the girls screaming and jumping out of their seats. Did u jump and scream during that part when the door closed and there was a loud noise? a good amount of people did, why...i'll never kno  hehe.
WHAT GOT ME THE MOST was when he slipped on the jawless girls blood. MAN! I never felt so dumb for jumping. I never jump!

LOL that part actually got me, totaly wasn't expectin it, but got a good laugh out of it too. Got a great laugh at the dude going over the edge of his balcony, i tried to hold it in but bursted out laughin :D. His position after hitting the ground was hilarious. (don't ask why...cuz i dun even know haha) Another thing that got me was right at the beggining, great way to kick off the movie.
i'm not sure if any one mentioned it or not in this thread cause i didnt' really read it but...isn't it exactly like the ring..but a bit different? i saw the ring and i loved it and thought it was great, probably the scariest movie i ever saw but i keep seeing trailors for the grudge and it sounds exactly the same and im not sure if i want to see it because it might just make me angry.
if any one can tell me the 2 movies actually are different then perhaps i'll go see it.
well i'll probably just wait till i can rent it but still, only if you'v seen both movies and say the grudge is scarey i'll think about it.
HeRpZ03
10-23-04, 06:53 PM
Well it's not exactly the same thing but i understand where you're coming from. With the ring it was the people who watched the tape who died...and with this movie its the people who live/go into the house who die kinda thingy...thats prolly the only similiarity. But when you think about it all horror movies consist of the same things, creepy music, some dumb chic who ends up dying cuz she's to curious for her own good(not trying to be sexist or anything, but it's tru), loud sounds, blood...etc.
It was great! i saw the ring, didnt like it.. this is in no comparison at all
I'm yet to see the film but I checked out the website and had to shut it off....walking through that house was freaking me out...ya...I'm a chicken...cluck cluck:D

I just got back from seeing it, it was so scary I was nauseous, which was awesome....
I'm not going to be a jerk and describe scenes and ruin it for everyone though ...there were only subtle differences between this one and the original, and Jason Behr was in it <3 so it rocked :)
I hope it has a sequel like the Japanese one does :D
Go see it :D
OKay...
I just got back from seeing the Grudge...
Well.. this is what I think... Good movie.. but my experience was seriously disappointing...
There were so many kids in the theater, talking, laughing, making jokes and completely ruining the experience... Many people just walked out because of this... including almost me...
I hate it when that happens... serves me right for going to the 8:15 show.. should have waited till after the kids were all in bed... :(
HeatherRose
10-23-04, 10:23 PM
Hey now, I'm a kid :p
I had the same general disappointment...sucks doesn't it?
Some person behind me, after a scary part said "well I TOLD her not to go IN there." And my dad promptly told her to shut up...
Oh I wouldn't even leave a movie theater for that. I would stand up and tell them to shut up or instead of watching a movie, they'll be watching a live action fist in the face. It always works when you make a scary *** face and talk in an insane loud voice. LOL :p :p
I want to see this movie too!

LOL! There was one comment that totaly cracked me up, near the end when i think it was the detective who said "but we managed to save the house"...i heard someone say "oh thank god"...wether or not they were saying that in relation to the movie i just couldn't help but laugh. :D

when I went to a 5:10 show there was only around 30 to 50 people there. I was pretty happy with the people watching it, no big mouths or anything. My little cousin came to watch it with me. It was so funny, he would cover his eyes and ears for most of the movie. The whole time driving home I was making the sound that the ghost, monster or what ever was making, freaked my little cousin out..

"isn't it exactly like the ring..but a bit different?"
lol...
Ok I saw it Friday night at 9:50. It was really close to the original, but left out a storyline that would have been awesome (Think the school girls for those that saw the original? There were some awesomely creepy shots in that plotline.) But on the other hand, there were also bits from Ju-On 2... I won't point them out, but it seriously started freaking me out when I began to recognize things from the second one...
I kept thinking "...no way... they're not gonna do it... " but alas, they did. I was pleasantly pleased (ha) with it, as I was really afraid I was going to be disappointed.
I still maintain that the Japanese version was better, but I still definitely liked this one, and there were even more scary bits than the first. (but the first had a better... aura about it)
Ok That's all from me cuz I'm lazy and ..... blah

Ok, I saw this thing at 5:30 today with my bride.. Hardly anyone was in the theatre and certainly nobody was screaming or jumping that I detected.
something I learned years ago, is to go to the movies when normal people eat,or sleep that way it isn't crowded..(living 180 degrees out of phase with the norm, has many advantages)
I'm with Ebert.. thumbs down.
It's an Ok halloween snuggle movie for teenagers but, I actually started to fall asleep through the middle of this thing, until my wife's elbow to the ribs, cured that. It's incredibly slow and rather boring between that same face jumping out, and come on, how scary is a kids face, and Yoko Ono after a bad jam night. Actually Matt's trailer above pretty much sums it up
To each his own I guess..
I recently saw ROSE RED.. that gave me goose bumps..similar but scarier and more complex "house" theme I think
Poltergeist..now that was scary.. and still is
there's hardly a graveyard I pass without wondering if there's actually anything but dirt under those headstones.
This movie, fairly forgettable I think if you're over 20.. I even had to check on rat traps in my attic right after I got back in the fog.. I think some herpers homes, would be more terrifying, to John Q public. LOL
For those that liked the Ring, . there was an ad for the sequel in the intros.. It's coming out next spring

Stockwell, if you ever do have a chance to see the original Ju-On: The Grudge, I'd really suggest giving it a try, as it has a much better ... scare-factor.. It has a completely different atmosphere than the Americanized one, and you might not find it as boring ... Plus there's more storylines and you wouldn't get as bored as easily!!

one question about the movie, why does the little boy sound like a cat?? freaky but why?
Stockwell
10-25-04, 05:15 PM
I think they simply chose what was deemed to be scary, in a traditional Americana sense...
Why did the woman make those weird clicking noises? ... and didn't we hear those same noises on another movie... like Aliens or something
Actually I didn't have a problem with the sounds, but that mixed up times lines thing, was annoying, and that house was very bland and sparsly furnished, not the least bit scary.. If it didn't have an attic there would have been nothing scary about it at all. I really think haunted house movies, should start with a house that at least looks somewhat ominess, not like it needs a visit from designer guys..:)
As a stark contrast, check out Stephen King's Rose Red... , now thats a house!!
Rose Red kicks a**! Now that's a scary house! Although the Amityville horror was also pretty freaky for being an older movie.
Well saw this movie friday and liked it but I thought the ring was freakier. There were two idiots behind us that kept complaining it was boring doesnt' make sense blah blah. Personally I wanted to tell them to go find a disney movie, yeah know something their challenged intelects could understand. Still want to see the original Juon and Ring0.
Rose Red is a phenomenal movie as are most of Kings works, his books rock and once I start one I do nothing until I finish it ( with the exception of tommy knockers hated the first 1/3 of that book too slow) , thankfully I'm a fast reader!! LOL.
I'm a huge fan of scary movies. I saw the grudge last night. At the beginning I thought it was kind of stupid but between the middle and the end of the movie I will admit I was a bit creeped out. Did anyone else see this movie? Any thoughts?

Hiya just to let you know...
It's not a 4 part series =)
There's Ju-On: The Grudge 1 and 2
AND
There's Ju-On: The CURSE 1 and 2.... which are actually made-for-TV versions of the first 2! Ok just thought I'd let you know... =)
Melly some time you can come over and watch it at my house (although my house is creepy enough as it is that you don't have to watch a movie to make it worse)

I got this from a ju-on forum.
The despite the confusing and apparently corresponding numbering and having some aspects in common, the theatrical films are not remakes of the V-cinema films; it's best to regard them as four consecutive parts of a single saga.

It was creepy, no question. If I'm going to watch escapist entertainment, then I'm going to immerse myself in it and make it believable. Anyone could sit back and say the Lord of the Rings trilogy was crap, but if you don't take the time to enjoy all the sights and sounds, NO movie is ever going to be enjoyable.

I didn't find it scary, they lead you into a moment with the music, i jumped however when my date and I were talking then they started the film with no warning. I find the sound too loud personally. I didn't care for it. Need to scare us without leading into it. Go to wwwdoyouhaveagrudge.com and tour through the house, that will freak you out.
