View Full Version : Handling bloods?

I picked up a CB female blood (brongersmai) hatchling earlier this year and so far it has been an awesome experience. She's a great feeder, just flop in F/T mice and they'll be gone within an hour.

This snake has yet to show any signs of aggression towards me, knock on wood, and I'd like to keep it that way. :)

Does anyone have any hints on how to help keep her pleasant? I only handle her a few times a week, maybe 5 minutes or so each time. I'm always very careful not to spook her and when taking her from the cage I use a snake hook to lead her head out, away from me, first.

I suspect as she gets larger she'll become more "hands off."

Will more frequent handling help or hurt? FWIW I always give her a few days off after feeding.

Thanks for any advice or comments,
Allan

Allan,

It seems like u have quite a good snake. Usually, bloods would be more nippy as hatchlings then adults.
So you should be fine in the future.

If your blood is feeding regularly then there is no reason why u cant be handling it every couple of days.

When it reachs adulthood, it will probably be just as pleasent, although it will be alot more "vocal" with slight hisses and deep breathing, but its usually just a bluff and they rarely strike out.

But with all big boids, They should never be totally "trusted" and handled with precaution.
