hey, does anyone know how large the longest corn snake is/was? because i think one of mine is on its way, its 5 years old and is pushin 6 feet.i always thought that a corn snake size averages at about 4 foot, that means mines nearly 2 feet over that.anyone know if thats a large corn or is that a common size now?

According to Tennant (Snakes of North America, 2003) the record is 72 inches, though that may be the record for wild specimens and the round number makes me wonder if it is a guess.

I've heard many people claim to have 6 foot corns, but nobody has been able to prove it. This is a pic of Morpheus, who is verifiable at 5'7"... given that I'm 5'9", you can actually see him to scale in this pic:

Now, about the back 5-6 inches of his tail is curled around my finger in this pic, plust the fact that his neck has almost hit the ground and is coming back up, you can see, he's almost as long as I am tall. If you say you've got a 6 foot corn, I'd like to see it, preferably with a pic taken from directly overhead with an object for scale in the picture. There's a great snake measuring tool available on the net that has deadly accuracy as long as your pic is taken from directly overhead (Angles can really screw with measurements because of perspective, etc.)

I have big corns. My male snow is almost 1000 grams and a good five feet at only three years old (well almost four) so he will reach 6 in my opinion.

6 is not totally uncommon. Many people in the states have 6 footers or close to it within inches. Not so many in canada I hear about though.... Normals normally get the largest but others can get big too! :)

Marisa, most corns, unlike boids, are pretty much done growing at 3 years old. I have a couple that I got as 2 year olds, and they are coming up on 3, and they are done growing. Still, 1000 grams is not shabby. I should weigh Morpheus.

Anyway, 6 feet is incredibly uncommon. I've seen the claims from people in the US too, and I have still yet to see anyone prove it. There was one thread on here a while back where someone posted a huge specimen they saw in the wild, but due to laws, they let it go, but I remember there being pics of it next to a meter stick, and it was every bit as big as 6 feet, if not more.

I saw like three pics last year of 6 footers. All in the US. One was actually only 5'10" I believe, and I *THINK* it was a snow. So maybe not common, but I wouldn't be suprised if I owned one myself one day.

I wished I had saved all the pics. A gentleman named Marcel on another snake forum (very popular corn forum) has a 6 footer, with pics. The snake is 13 years old. They do most of their growing in three years, but the largest corns I have seen are all over the age of five. I guess that's because they never stop growing, and every tiny bit helps!
