My male was really active last night and so I put him with his girl. It looks like they may be starting a month earlier than last year...

This year everything was cooled a month earlier than last year to get the boas going(they are going at it like crazy) and I am uncertain if anything will come from this early breeding of IJCP or if it was just to satisfy the males urge. Last year they bred in early December and also a bit later when things warmed up a bit. I will leave them paired up for a few more days and start the seperation and reintroduction. I am excited that they are showing interest so early. My Spitfire male isn't showing any interest yet but it is still very early.

Well it has been about 8 hours since I noticed they were coiled up and they are still going at it! They have switched ends of the cage but still have theirs tails wrapped. Last year this male was lazy but this year he really wants to go at it!

OH it gets even better! Now the 03 Spitifire Male decided he wanted to go at it too! WOOO HOOOO! Hopefully these two will keep it up so I can get a couple of nice clutches...

I have a few boas breeding now too. Hog Island Boas, Hypos, and a couple normal girls. Our possible double het snow boas are not! It figures huh? LOL

I just removed both of my males to give them a break for a few days. I noticed one of the females had a little something near her vent...

As you can see she is turning opaque also so the breeding action probably would have stopped anyway.

Its kind of gross I know but is something that is not shown much and I thought someone would like to see it.
This brings a question. How long do you think IJCP can retain sperm prior to ovulation? Last year I know she went at least 2-3 weeks without a male prior to ovulation, but I also think this is why only 4 of the 8 eggs were fertile. This year the males will continue to be cycled until after the post ovulation shed if they have one. Last year this female did not shed after ovulation and just waited to shed before laying.

That's very cool, best of luck Jaremy! :) Those are some killer looking males, I'm sure you'll get some awesome babies out of them -- are you sure you don't ship up here? LOL. Congrats!
