yeah i`m in saskatoon - there isn`t any place really - I got my hovabator from some one I know for pretty cheap - if you call a 'farm store' or a hatchery your looking a pretty hefty amount of cash - look on ebay or order from a website - ebay is cheapest tho

have you considered building your own? If you search around this forum's archives, you'll find a number of threads about home made incubators. All you need is an old bar fridge, a cooler or even a well insulated wooden box, plus a thermostat, a heat source (light bulbs, heating cable) and perhaps a small fan (optional, depending on how the incubator is set up).

Its really easy - thats what we had to do this spring - you just need an aqurium, a rubber made, moss, a tank heater, a pump, and a thermometer.

We took the rubbermade and filled with the moss and eggs - then we put it in the water half way and kept the water at the right temp and the eggs hatched in 56 days. It worked great.

I dont doubt it, but i think that i would rather have a factory manufactured incubator. Although that does sound fairly simple of an idea.

yeah thats why we bought one - its just easier - you don`t have to worry about the water level or temp or anything - we had to do it the other way though because the guy we bought the incubator from had eggs in it at the time and we needed something asap.

Its something to think about if you suddenly need one before you get a chance to buy one.

Do they have to be turbo fan or fan at all? Wouldnt that just dry the eggs out?

A fan is good for circulation. If you keep the eggs in a container in the incubator you don`t have to worry about that. The fan doesn`t run constantly either it goes on and off. how ever I don`t think a fan is nessicary - however it is a good idea

I will keep the eggs in a container. That is why i ask. I dont want to spend money on something i dont need.

I found one that i like. It doesnt have a fan. If they are containered it that going to cause a problem? The eggs i mean.

You don't want one with a fan. Fans dry out reptile eggs. :)

Hmm... actually, the earlier poster was correct when they said that fans don't dry out reptile eggs because the reptile eggs are in a container.

but do the fans do anything of purpose? With the eggs in containers does it make a difference if I dont have a fan?

fans make sure the temperature is consistent throughout the incubator, so there aren't hotter areas and cooler areas. Otherwise the top of the incubator will always be warmer than the bottom. This only matters if you have a tall incubator and are incubating animals with very specific incubation requirements. Shallow incubators are less of an issue. Even taller incubators without a fan are fine as long as you are aware of the temperatures of the individual levels. I used an incubator without a fan and got an average difference of 50 days in incubation times between clutches raised on different shelves (one clutch was incubated at around 1C warmer than the other). The difference with reptiles that have shorter overall incubation times wouldn't be as great.

I would be incubating leopard gecko eggs or fire skink eggs. The incubator i am getting is a hovabator and is shallow. I just was to incubate eggs and hatch them.
