How many of us are buying from the USA right now, with our Canadian dollar being so strong right now. Or are you waiting to see if it gets even better?

Im not buying from the states but I think our dollar will drop later on. I dont think it could go higher. Just my opinion. So if you like anything from e-bay start bidding now, youll save a lot!

Don't be so sure. The dollar is projected to hit 85 cents by January, and if Gee Dubyah gets re-elected, you can bet your bottom Canadian dollar it will go even higher.

Just think folks our dollar actually used to be worth more than theirs. I for one am looking forward to seeing this again, other old guys like Dean probably still remember LOL. Mark

Well, I haven't sold anything on Ebay for three months now but it is great to buy. I just got a few snakes out of Florida and even after being hammered by shipping, taxes and everything else I saved a fair bit. This would be a great time to bring in anything you can't seem to find up here; maybe make some babies and share with the rest of us ;).

It's not so much that the Canadian currency gains as much as the American loses value. We basically hold steady and the Yanks slip back. Their economy is about due for a downturn as well. And any economic slowdown there affects us And I agree wholeheartedly with Invictus about ole Geo dubya

Yea, when I read what Invictus said I thought to myself that I'd rather have our dollar "go down" (or American dollar go up, however you want to look at it) than have him re-elected. But that's a whole other issue! Haha...
But I'm still hoping that I'll be able to get some American money for cheap for my New York trip ahhaha

It won't be long before you will be getting a great exchange rate, kate. It's around 1.22 for a american dollar and the gap is going to narrow even more. good news for snowbirds too :D.

DEAN:
Yes I did a few USA purchases of boids this year and a few more still on way as well. Because I was not sure if the dollar was maxed or going up and down during this process, I simply opened a US bank account. In this method I hold a few funds ready on any purchase plus when I noticed the dollar getting better for us I deposit even more into that account for future use. So far the positive gains are the record keeping I do and buying US money cheaper than ever.
Example:
I had a opportunity to buy a few animals which was almost $5000.00 US. If I had paid at that moment it would have been roughly $7200.00 CAD. But while waiting for the CITIES paperwork and finalizing that deal the dollar went great for Canadians and I finalized the deal at a much cheaper rate and both the seller and myself are excited about it. The savings later was almost another $1000.00 CAD.
I for one want and hope the dollar keeps getting better for us. Simply when the house market says this is the perfect time to buy a house, I say its the perfect time to buy reptiles from USA. Although alot is needed to perform this task.
1. Not just any USA breeder/seller will ship to Canada.
2. Not all can be trusted with the money or the representation of the animals, I mean there are Canadian scammers in the hobby so USA ain' t any different
3. Not all understand the paperwork needed to be done.
There are other factors involved as well, but each situation is a little different.
Well that' s my 2 cents.
Cya...
Tony
I am surprized that more people are not going Herp crazy with the good exchange rate. I really like the way you are doing it Tony it makes perfect sence. I may just do the same thing, just a matter of picking a good bank i guess.
Oh ya Mark I'll NOT that old am I.....LOL
Later all
