I was visiting a friend of mine and she has a pair of leos that are having their first breeding season. She has had some really bad advice about incubating the eggs and either the eggs are infertile or not properly set up, none of the eggs have survived.
I am going to help her from this point onward though so maybe she may get a few babies to hatch. I bred leos in the past and had successes.

Now, the part that has me most confused is that her female has produced 16 eggs already since june and looks to still have a couple on the way. I never got more than ten or twelve back when I was breeding leos. Is this normal????? Doesn't seem right, almost like it's two breeding seasons back to back or something. There doesn't seem to be an end to the eggs!!!

I was hoping that someone with more experience than I have could help clear this up. I realise that this is a topic that comes up alot but I've never encountered it before. Any info, suggestions or insights will be welcome here.

Leos can lay a clutch of two every 3 or 4 weeks, but only if very well fed and with lots of calcium. But 16 would be 8 clutches and thats more than usual for a 5 month period, but not impossible I suppose, although more than I have ever seen in that period.
To turn them "off" stop feeding them and cool them down

I have had a few of my females lay 20+ eggs in one breeding season. I find the ones that did though were also very large 90+grams.

thanks mike

I thought cooler temps would help, hopefully the next two eggs that are coming will be the last for awhile so the female can recover. I already had advised my friend to cool them a little and she is going to. As for incubating, I'm going to be helping her with that part from now on so it should work out.
She really has to stop listening to pet store personnel!
