I have Red Tegu that has been shedding for at least 3 weeks and is having a hard time doing so. I soak her everyday, and I feed her fruit constantly.....What else can I do?
hey, what do you mean by bad shed?? it can take awhile for varanids and teiids to fully shed as they shed in pieces.
it can be related to your husbandry IE: not enough humidity, do you use an aquarium w/screen lid?? this makes shedding difficult.

If you give him fruits constantly, look for the husbandry...specially humidity. Did your tegu is baby to be active at this time if the year? You don't cool him

with any varanid species just like what V.hb said it can take a while for them to fully complete a shed stage in fact sometimes when they are young they are growing quickly enough to exit one stage and very quickly go into another one
Its not like snakes where they shed once a month or every couple months and shed in one solid piece...
but keep soaking her if you feel it is a problem and up the humidity in her cage

I have to ask. What substrate are is it on?
Since I switched to cyress mulch for my tegu, he sheds quickly and usually in just a few big pieces.

i got a question, do tegus like dampness? my tegu always seems to dig under the heat lamp part of my terrium and goes to sleep instead of the damper areas of the tank.... my humidity level on my exo terra hygrometer is around 50 all the time... my lizard has bad sheds too, infact on her back she lost 2 layers of shed skin and the rest of her body is still completing shed skin 1 and shed skin 2 stages here. She seems to be doing fine though. My lizard hates fruit! I have tried everything and she just doesnt eat it, for some reason she likes dried fruit better then fresh fruit, i think my lizard is ghetto.

i had a red tegu for about 2 years and it always had trouble shedding on his tail. something i advise is to take out the peatmoss use dirt instead and raise the basking spot. Ive heard that citrus fruit help them shed so feed your tegu some orange, and any feeders you feed it like bugs or rodents get them to eat some orange peel a day or 2 before you feed them to your tegu.
the dirt will allow your tegu to burrow, and while in the burrow when he sleeps he will be constant in a damp area. keep up the bathing and goodluck.
