hi everyone, i have been interested in getting a crested, just wondering what the pros and cons are of them ie handling and ease of care, i have read care sheets and things.
What would i be looking to pay for one of these litle fellas

Cresties are awesome little geckos...:D

They're usually quite handleable, just a little bit jumpy sometimes. Caring for them is simple too, as you probably read on the caresheets. They're a blast, I can't seem to stop buying them :p

In Canada you'd look to pay anywhere from 75$-175$ for a hatchling, depending on the colour...

great lizards. good for beginners, but stay interesting as you get more experienced.

only con is you will buy more and more and more

make sure you dont overheat them. Keep them below 85 F. and make sure you keep humidity up by misting once or twice a day.

Yup. ... ... They're addictive. But at least it's a legal addiction.

Generally they're skittish when young, but calm down nicely to tolerate handling very well (can't say 'like to be handled', they'll accept interaction with you though). Cresties will easily drop their tails and they won't grow it back, so be careful around the back end of one, lest the tail go flying. That's probably the only negative point I can think of, and it's not all that negative either.

I agree with everyone here. Crested geckos are so fun to keep and watch. I think their appeal stems from their variability in colour and pattern, thats why people have to get more :D

I agree with the CDN-Cresties in that he agrees. Crested geckos are awesome! The only think I would trade mine for are more cresties. I'm planning on getting some leaf tails someday so until then these are my favourite. They are definately a good choice for a beginner, just don't overheat them. Heating cresties is something beginners will do and that will kill them. A major pro for crested geckos is they don't need to eat crickets all the time. You can feed them babyfood or Crested Gecko Diet (sold at pet stores). You will only have to feed them crickets once every week or two. Best of luck,

Third one, huh? I can't even think back far enough to when I only had three of them. With the adults and babies, I've got over 40 googly-eyed cresties here, and I looked and drooled over the ones for sale at the St. Jacob's show yesterday. If I hadn't already gotten an AFT at the show, I'd have bought more cresites. Luckily (or is it?) my budget made the final decision.

I can give you some cons, Ignorance or a lack of time for care.!
I sold my girl friends co worker a crested gecko, she came to my house I spent a while talking to her about their care and requirements. showed her all my set ups gave her tips, calcium, some cgd, starter crickets, a list of plants and the common care sheet by allen rha..a fool proof care list

last week she asked my girl friend if I would care for the little guy while she's away at disney world for a month. She brought the tank over last week. A ten Gallongood size for a juvie but it was bone dry!! with lots of rocks on the bottom, filthy with dying plants with no water or humidity. I've decided to tell her how it is when she comes back to get her gecko. As soon as she left I made up the tank the right way/ It was obvious the little guy hardly sees water or calcium, oh and my girlfriend told me she's afraid of crickets and won't dust them. I'm going to offer her the 100 bucks back. The little guys happy now he's back with me and being treated well.

the moral of my story is ignorance is a major con in keeping any reptiles. even if you prepare someone to take good care of an animal if they have a busy scheduel or they're not too bright that animals going to suffer. If you work long hours then you should have someone mist your geckos or leave a water bowl crested geckos to me are above a beginner reptile. Unfortunetly cresteds like leos are hearty and can sadly with stand mistreatment. If you don't have the time don't pay the dime!

The only con I've noticed so far with my 4 month old is that he's not active when I watch him, but whenever I leave he's always somewhere else! Damn guy. Anyways, cresties are an amazing choice, I like the cage setup possibilites as well, you can do an intense tropical setup, or be crazy like me and start making plans for converting your entire bathroom into a crested cage. :D
