Cage size opinions

Hello, I was wondering about others opinions on cage sizes for large constrictors. Some say the bigger the better, and others tell me they dont need a whole lot of room. I have a male burm (about 7.5 feet) who will be getting his big enclosure soon, and I want to make sure he's comfortible in it (its not too small), and I dont want to try to save some money by not getting the biggest one avalible. Would one 72x24x11.5 be fine for a male? Or would it be better to get one larger? Thank you for your help.

Bare minimum size for a burm is 8x4x4. If you can go bigger thats great but minimum 8x4x4.

It's good you asked for opinions because reall that is all there is. Unless you live in an area which has specific captive wildlife bylaws which are again another opinion made law.

Here are a couple of other opinions:

From the FAQ page on this site:

"When the snake grows larger (which they will do), you will need a much larger enclosure. We keep our big ones in 3’ x 8’ enclosures – which takes up a lot of room."

From an article on Retics by Bob Clarke in REPTILES MAGAZINE, July 2002:

"Most adult retics can live comfortably in a cage measuring 36 by 72 by 36 inches."

OK, he's not talking burms, but a full size retic will easily be comparable.

My opinion:
For a male (Lets say estimate 12' full grown length for the sake of argument) My opinion would say 72x36x24 minimum. larger if possible.

4 feet is much too high, way to hard to heat. I recommend 8x4x2 is big enough. burms don't need hight!!!!!!!!!
