sex in question

I got a new unsexed adult black back today and I probed it and it probed to seven scales on both sides. I was just wondering what sex it would be. It has no spurs and it is very thick in girth. It looks like a female to me but I have never had a female probe so deep.

hmmmmm...i thought males had the longer spurs..... anyone else know?

That's in the tricky range where it's tough to be too confident without having probed it myself. My "bet" would be male though.

Finally some feed back. No pics right now. I will try to get some for you though. Do you want pics of it's tail/ vent area or just a pic of the entire snake.

If you can get a couple clear pictures from the side and botton of the tail, someone here should be able to give you a pretty good idea of the sex.

yeah, i have a male that probed 7-8 scales and I STILL don't know, I said male, and everyone else pretty much agreed. All my girls didn't go more than 3-4.

Tim, sorry, maybe I should have specified. I probe and I pop. I've interchanged the order in which I do them for excitement. If I pop first, then probe, I'm 100% on with the pop. If done the other way around, I'm not always 100%. Keep in mind that this is for balls under 1.5 yrs. old. I might just suck at probing, but IMO there's too many grey areas with probing 5 scales? 6 scales? 7 scales? Not sure? I pop. Then I'm sure.

My black back is just over 3ft and I never really thought about popping a snake that big.
