View Full Version : Boa pics (twist my arm, Matt :P )
I have a feeling this girl is gonna be a big one. At 26 months of age, and for the most part of her life feeding on a single rat no more than twice a month, this girl has already passed the 6' mark

Here is her future boyfriend. Quite a bit younger, and only half her size, as it took me a long time to find a mate I felt was suitable enough for her. I got this guy as a wee little neonate and am quite pleased with how he is maturing. I don't have a doubt in my mind that they will make awesome little babies

The lighting in my room sucks anytime past 10am, I haven't had much free time to take serious pics of these guys. Hopefully in the new year I will get a bit more time and get some pics that actually do these little boogers justice :p
YUP, im an idiot!! She looks amazing Linds!! The only thing keeping me sane looking at these pics is knowing that i'll be able to get some of her babies.. :D
Wow she is sweet :) and huge too.

My god she's sexy, Linds!
Are you giving her another year before breeding her?
Thanks for the kind words everyone!
MouseKilla,
Oh most definitely. While she's definitely getting some size to her, it would be way too risky IMHO to breed her at only two years of age. Hopefully my male will be ready by next season to give her a go, he turns a year old in the winter :)
Linds.........
How much?
Where?
And When?

She's amazing Linds!! I still can't believe that Matt sold that boa :p We'll just put it down to temporary insanity I guess... lol.
Regardless, that pair is going to make some sweet babies for you in a few years, the male is awesome too! :D

Linds,
I assumed that you would give her another year, from what I've heard most people would wait for the third year.
I'm curious though as to what risk there is in trying with a young female that is over 6 feet and has graduated from that stage of life when they are all long and lanky. I'm not talking about your specific snake necessarily, just wondering what standards you use to determine when a female is ripe. Age, length, weight... do all of those have to reach a predetermined point or is 2 of the 3 factors enough?
Thanks for the compliments everyone! :D
Jen,
LOL yeah I believe saying something to him along those lines when he stuck her up for sale :p
MouseKilla,
Even if they get big fast, their systems have not fully matured yet. Their skeletal structure is still hardening (something nothing can speed up), and their organs are still maturing. They need every last bit of the nutrients they ingest to support and finish the bulk of their growth, rather than have to put it all towards babies (which is where ALL of what they eat, and all their body fat goes). Personally, I determine a female to be ready by combination of age and condition. If she looks like a healthy breedable adult and meets *at least* the 'minimum' age (whatever for that species that they tend to be 'full grown'), then I would consider her breedable. I don't bother with the 'set minimum weight and lengths', as I feel they are inaccurate and do not fairly address the individual.
