I bought them as Achatina achatina. And as far as i have read it should be this species. I have 4 big snails... cna grow a bit more... and aprox 200 babies and about 100 eggs.
Should be a lot of fun... Allthough they are bought as a food for my skinks.

tha's one damn big snail!!! Just curious, I see you feed them to your skinks...are they suitable for human conumption - and if so, are they tasty?? (gross thought maybe ;) )

damzookeeper, they are legal to own them in the states, but they are however still illegal to own in Canada, although they breed very rapidly and people are selling them regardless of there legal status.

They're illegal in North America.. A school had thiers taken away a few months back in the US and fines were laid.. I'll see if I can dig up the article.. It's posted on the site somewhere..

That's funny cuz I was reading a care sheet and it stated that they were illegal in the U.s. I assumed they weren't in Canada as I bought 6 of my 10 from pet stores in my area. But that doesn't really mean anything around here. lol. I use mine for feeders as well. My blue tongues absolutely love them!

Here is the care sheet that says they are illegal in the U.s.
