Venomous Reptiles, the book

Written by Sherman Minton. I am reading it now. Wondering who else has read it, your thoughts and i would strongly suggest this book to anyone into venomous herpaculture.

I have it, but have not had the chance to read that much of it. I got it in one of my bigger book deals when lots of others came in at the same time.

I'm poor so I'm getting 'The Venomous Reptiles of the Western Hemisphere' by Campbell and Lamar for my Birthday in Dec. I may request the Minton book as well ;).

His autobiography is also an amazing read - even the non-herp related parts are of interest.

Think it's about time to stop saving money for snakes and buying books such as those mentioned. At least they don't stress ya out by not eating! :p

Yeah, but then you get stressed when you want to read them, but have to read for classes instead!

I've been thinking about getting both the books mentioned earlier. I'd be interested in knowing how they are.

I recently purchased Venomous Reptiles of North America and it seems like a pretty good one so far. Haven't read much of it to really tell, but have skimmed through it.

what does the book look like?
I have venomous snakes in the terrarium by Ludwig Trutnau.
originaly it's german but you can get it in english also..Very good book

Venomous Snakes of the Western hemisphere is an AMAZING set. I got the chance to look throught he 2 volume set for about an hour. Simply amazing to say the least. I cannot verify the information since I didn't have much of a chance to read it, but the photography was stunning. Hundreds of snakes and snakebites. Easily the largest collection of snakebite photos that I have seen (most with species and timeline). Of course, in the snakebite photos, I saw enough scrotal swelling to last a lifetime. Remind me not to get bit on the leg. ouch.

Chuck, Years ago I asked Bill Haast what book he recommended I read, and Venomous Reptiles by Sherman Minton was his recommendation. It is a great book. Some of the LD50 data may be outdated a little, but it is a good book to read. I met Dr Minton and his wife at one of the Orlando shows.

Ive read the minton book, its great! True, its old and a little outdated, but still a good book. I love to read the old books and see how things have changed!
