Hi there,

I have a question about the herp shows, like the toronto and St. Jacobs...it states that there are to be NO pythons or boa shown who adult size is over 6'6 feet.

If so then are I right to assume that I will not be able to buy any of the following as they ALL have adult size over the restricted limit:

Burmese, retics, GTP, a lot of boas etc.

Also does this restricton also apply to lizards like monitors?

Finally, what do you think of this?

Thanks!

I'm not 100% sure on this, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think those restrictions apply to the Port Credit shows in Toronto, they were only for the St. Jacobs show...at the show in Septemeber I bought a columbian BCI, which will probably exceed 6 ft in length...and there were GTPs for sale...I don't remember seeing any burms or retics...but as far as I could tell they didn't have any restrictions...

the waterloo show has the restriction but not the port credit show. I haven't looked into it but the restriction is probably due to local laws. If the local laws state you can't have a certain animal, having it at the show would break the law. having restrictions to keep in line with the law is totaly reasonable as having a show with out a few of the bigger animals is better then no show all together. it also gives the smaller animals to be in the spot light

The St. Jacobs show has a limit of 6.6 feet. The Port Credit shows have a limit of 3 metres which I believe is 10 feet. So, you cannot have any of the following snakes out at the Toronto shows: Burmese, Retics, African Rocks, most types of Scrub, Olive and Paupan pythons, as well as Green Anaconda's. Common boas are allowed as most stay under the 10 foot limit except for some types and only in rare cases. You are also not allowed any venomous species of any kind and no crocidilians.

That is the basics of it anyways.

The Toronto Reptile Expo prohibits (do to by-laws)
-no species of snake which may exceed three meters in length
-no species of lizard which may exceed two meters in length
-no venomous or poisonous animals
-no crocodilians

There have been and will again be exemptions to this when specimens are displayed for specific reasons,as when Burmese were displayed to demonstrate a species that is prohibited. These were on display on behalf of the Mississauga Animal Control thanks to Corey. We are hoping in February to have a display once again of the same formula including Crocodilians. This will be in conjunction with a provincial and/or federal department hopefully, fingers crossed:)

As for other reptile shows I am not sure what they operate under but I can safely say it is probably close to the same prohibited list. as most municipalities have adopted the widely used Toronto by-law.

I hope this answers your questions.
