Hey all,

Just have a question. I was wondering if anyone else had a fairly aggressive crestie. the reason i ask is that the little guy I have attacks water droplets and tries to attack my finger when i have it on the outside of the glass of his enclosure.

He's also gone after my and my fiancees finger when we put them in the tank (only once each) for feeding/cleaning. It doesn't hurt, it's kinda interesting because I haven't read or heard of any such thing out of all the posts i've read!

anyone else experience this? any insights?

Thanks a bunch!
James

Some cresties are a lot more aggressive than others...if he's chasing your fingers around on the glass he could just have a crazy feeding response.

My female was like that, until she started snaping at the glass when I walk by...maybe she has alterior motives?

guess heather made her point lol j/k i know ive made that same double but not triple post mistake before, but my crestie was a tad on the aggressive side when I got him. First time I got him out of his carrying box he big the palm of my hand, then I tried to coax his mouth slightly to open by petting it which yes I know it just begging to get bit but I wanted to see the calcium sac, and of course he latched on too me, and once when i cleaned his cage got snapped at as well, but a week later and ever since he's been great he always heads for my poster but lands on my hand and stays satisfied with that climbing all over my hands with biting and have even got to see the calcium sac since without being bit maybe he just needs time to grow accustomed to you

It sounds like a feeding response to me. To figure out if it's an aggression response or a feeding response look at the gecko's posture. They stalk food items, so when they hunt they pause, line up their prey, then jump and take it down. It's not uncommon to have cresteds with crazy feeding responses, and eventually your crested will figure out that your hand doesn't taste that great. If it's an aggression thing they tend to stand up tall and open wide, some make little barking sounds as well. Here's a pic of an agression display, this little guy definitely hatched out on the wrong side of the egg.:p

thanks for all the info! he's still a youngun (4ish months) and the only reason i was worried is because he's been like this for the last month or so.

It doesn't look like an aggressive pose (like in the pic) so i'm going to assume that it's just an overactive feeding response. he is a pretty aggressive hunter sooo....

again, thanks a bunch all! much appreciated! have a good (canadian thanksgiving) weekend!
