Hey every one. My boss at the job got a Crested Gecko (at the zoo) about 3-4 weeks ago. Since then it have not eaten except the 2 meal worms. It got a water bowl, some plants, soil, and we are trying to feed it some Wax Worms and small- medium Crickets. It got a lamp of 120 V over the tank and an under tank heater. Its getting thinner every day! Any help would be greatly appreshiated. Thanks!
TAKE THE HEATER AND LAMP OFF RIGHT AWAY!
They need to be kept at room temperature...anything over 80 is baaad news... They get stressed easily...85 for a short period of time is bearable but not recommended

YES, take the heater and overhead light away immediately. The poor creature is heat stressed probably. Get yourself a jar of peach or apricot baby food, add some calcium and crested gecko diet if you can get it and try that immediately- just put a small amount in a small lid of a jar. You do know they are nocturnal lizards, I hope. I mist mine in the evening time at this time of year. They need room temperature only right now. Go do it straight away please......Andrea.
p.s. feel free to e-mail me for more help if need be @

Dap your finger in that food and place a tiny bit on it's nose. It should lick it off. Try putting some water droplets on it's nose as well by letting it drip on....spray that tank down to cool it off immediately.

What zoo was that? And did nobody do an internet search on care even after the animal was acquired? Give him a hard time Alex.

Thanks every one! No my boss did not know anything about them when he got them. I'm at work wrigh know, so when i'l get home i'l ansver more quistions.
Poor little guy! People should definitely take the time to read up, before they buy a pet. By the sounds of it, you caught it in time though, and he'll be okay. Just spray him down a lot right away, to cool him off, and hydrate him...Keep us posted on how he's doing.

Dude he's like melting his crestie...
Removing the heat should do it, the amount of people buying cresties and not researching them are starting to piss me off...
Good luck.

I'm back home from work******. Crested gecko have licked a little water and food off its nose today. I sprayed his tank but he did not seem interested in the water droplets.
I have worked in that zoo for 2 month know and so fur have seeing EXTREAM anymal cruelty! My boss keeps on getting new animals with out haveing the space for them. A week ago he got 4 Red Tail Boas, each being about 6 feet long, and placed them together in a tank of 3 feet by 5 by 4 feet tall, then he took the 2 small (1 1/2 feet long) aligators and placed them in a tank that is 1 feet by 4 feet long! I tryed to talk to him but he just beatches at me (and every one als in the zoo) saying that if i do not like it i can go and buy them another tank! I would love to go to the SPCA or something but then i'l loose my job for sure. Any ideas on what i can do? Thanks!

Try just making an anonymous call to the SPCA in your area. Describe the situation at the zoo and your concerns. Try contacting this group as well at http://www.wspcr.com/
Maybe they can give you some advice or put you in contact with someone that will be able to help change the situation there.

You know what...Why don't we all contact the SPCA so he isn't at fault! Cause that's horrible.
Mike
That's aweful - I can't believe that someone hasn't called already. If you don't call the SPCA about this, I will. That's bull****.

Is that the ****? I can't believe people still go there!!! Man, I wish **** could have bought that zoo! They already had there Zoo lisence taken away! I guess the SPCA won't do more until the animals are all dead! So ridiculous! My poor pacman is there too!!! Poor Zues, I donated him to the Zoo before these new guys bought it. Is he okay? He's the albino!

Are you sure that that's the place that you'd like to keep a job? I don't think that I'd like being associated with such a place.

I've removed the actual names in several posts. Naming businesses and/or people in a negative post isn't allowed, to prevent possible legal problems.

No "naming names". This is not the C/BOI, please refrain from mentioning individuals or business

wow I wish you could list the names so people would never go there truthfully, but I understand where you're coming from with the legal issues. Thats total garbage I read the thing about the crestie and was appauled, I bought mine in spur of the moment decision and when I say that I mean did about 2 days worth of net research and since aquiring him probably an additional 10 if not more, and even now I still find new things here and there. I'd definatly not worry about losing your job as much as getting those poor animals in the proper conditions, maybe a better investor will come along who can help properly care for them if not I'm sure any home would be better than where they're at, but again I see where you're coming from jobs arent the easiest things to come by especially those working with animals. Not around here anyway.

Leviathan,
I had no idea that they had their lisence taken away befor, and ever since i started working there (2 1/2 month ago) there was not albino pacman there.
Brent_Strande,
I would rather be working in a more reputable zoo, but then again who gona feed the anymals there.
O and also so fur since i got there they lost 3 snakes, one pacman (not an albino), and 2 Camilions

I think we should get back on topic - helping the crested gecko. The zoo and any possible shortcomings is more a topic for the board of inquiry, not something to be done in this forum.
Thanks for understanding.
