View Full Version : This site is not good for me!!!
Since I have joined this wonderful site and have been reading and participating in these forums, there has been one major side effect. Seeing everyone's gorgeous snakes has more than doubled my "wanted list" and I just end up drooling and dreaming of new snakes. Much to my boyfriend's dismay!
Seriously, I was planning to get maybe 4-5 other snakes in the future but now I'm going mad seeing all these gorgeous snakes and wanting them for myself too! What am I to do? And how to deal with my bf who is getting discouraged of me talking about them all the time and planning on making new cages and getting much more than originally planned?!
Now that we're talking about getting a house, the first thing that came to my mind was "Woohoo, a snake room!" and he just dropped his head and said "great..." He is a sweety to let me enjoy this hobby and even helps me sometimes with my snakes but I don't know how much more he can take!!!
You guys/gals are killing me!!!
i know what you mean pixie, i'm like ooo i want that one....no wait, i want that one!! oo oo that one's nice
damn you guy's and your damn beautiful snakes....damn you all to hell
LOL you caught the Gotta-Have-Its....lol :p No hope of being cured now, but why would anyone want to... weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! :p
yeah i came down with the gotta-have-its before, it was really itchy...and burning.....that'll teach me
I'd see a Dr. about that if I was you...sounds like a nasty rash
:D
when i joined this forum I had 0 snakes
now i have 1 and will get 1 Kenyan from Roy (as soon as she eats)
I may get a normal corn this weekend from St Jacobs and I hope to have a BP by the end of the year
I already have the tanks ready and will stock up the freezer in prep for the new additions
I have had friends come over to let me know if there is ANY way I can re-arrange my furniture to fit in more tanks. The only recommendation was to get a bunk bed since all floor and wall space is FULL.
My Mom won't even come over any more, "You have more damn animals than a pet store!"
The next option is to get a house and Believe me...I'm trying!
Muahahaha:devil:

we have plans of getting a house we have plans for our bed
room then two rooms for the animals one for my snakes and the
rest for the dog and cats................people say we already have
our zoo i love it
people think i have a zoo, 4 dogs, plus you know 2 times a year i have litters of puppies, rodents, reptiles, my dirty laundry, theres definatly things living in there..
at least you can feed the laudry things to the reptiles right?
I think dust mites are too small though
maybe I need a bigger snake...so I can justify the dust bunnies
I definitely NEED a house! I have over 30 animals living in my bedroom with me, not to mention the 100+ feeders breeding in my basement and the few other animals that live in the main part of the house. Don't know how I can fit anymore in my room. I get teased because I have aisles in my room - apparently stores are only supposed to have aisles, not bedrooms :p
See, that's the fun part of the Gotta-Have-Its, I'm STILL aquiring new animals.....LOL :p :o

isn't addiction fun, I dumped the last one that didn't love snakes
just to anyone who wants to know, last time i got the GTHI's i cleared it up really fast with Monastat 7, just so you know, also, my room has aisles in too linds, you're not the only one, it takes me awhile to wake up in the mornings , so i end up falling down quite a bit...ah well, small price to pay
last one what Rev?
did I list my critters anywhere? not sure so here goes
1.0 iguana
1.0 beardie
1.0 mali uro
0.1 mabuya skink
0.3 pictus
0.1 ameiva
1.0 sudan plated lizard
0.2 bibrons geckos
5.4 leopard geckos
2.0 Boston terriers
20 gal fish tank
35 gal tank w/hermit crabs
not bad for a 1 bdrm apt.
Silke, you have Boston terriers too! I have 2 too!!!
1 male 4 1/2 years (Bobby) and 1 female 11 months (Mathilda). They are quite the little dogs and have a whole bunch of energy especially my little young one, boy she drives my other 2 dogs nuts!!! I have a retired greyhound as well and he just watches them and grunts when they are too much for him! Quite the funny little buggers, my Bobby still doesn't get that he's a dog and not a human!!!
OMG
I feel like a heel !
I forgot my one and only snake!
Oscar is 3.5 and Charlie is 2
Oscar is my little 'diva' and Charlie...well, I named him after Charlie Chaplin for a reason
he's goofy, clumsy, has LOADS of energy and is always in a good mood
they both love men with facial hair...go figure!
How are they with their toys? My Bobby wants every toy and bone in the house, he just wont stand to have any of the other two have anything! I even go to the point of putting him in his cage when I pass out bones, he wont touch his while the others are chewing theirs, then I let him out, he goes steals whatever's left and THEN starts chewing his bone. He's getting clumsy too, once in a while when he jumps on the couch he totally misses his mark and just bounces off the side of the cushion. First time I saw it, I almost peed my pants laughing at him!
Gotta love those bostons!

I'm definitely not going to disagree with you Pixie :)
Not that I wasn't already addicted to herps when I came to this site -- I was. But being here has only made it worse -- hehe :) At least BEFORE I came I was only addicted to one kind of herp... and it definitely wasn't snakes. I never would have considered bringing one home...
Now I'm hoping to bring my first one home this weekend at the St.Jacob's show -- and in the process of my research, have come up with at least 3-4 other kinds of snakes that I want to have... hehe...
I need help! Can anyone help me?? :D :p Hehe... probably not :) You're all in just as bad of shape (or worse ;)) than me *grins*...
Anyhow -- good luck converting the boyfriend... I never did manage to... now that we're not together anymore, I think that I'll be going for a fellow herp lover next time -- just so much easier that way :) Although perhaps not on the pocketbook! LOL....
I'm happy to see I'm not the only one that has the so called "gotta have its"!!! It's just so darn hard to deal with everyones nice snake pics sometimes, especially since joining this site. I keep drooling at all the cute snakes and adding more and more to my wish list and planning out these new enclosures so I can have all the snakes my little heart desires (although I don't think that's ever going to happen!). Now that we're looking into a new home, I'm already planning out a snake room!!! Will it ever end??? Am I going to need to get a mansion one day to have all the snake rooms I want? Or hire some help to care for them all??? Okay, I'm starting to go nuts here!!!
The boyfriend is dealing with my passion pretty well for someone who isn't as addicted as I am. He knows and accepts the idea of a room just for my snakes and aside from the discouraging sighs he lets out when I go on and on about the subject, he's real nice about dealing with my snakes and helps me out when I need him to. He's just the type that one would be enough and I'm totally the opposite, I need one of every kind!!! He's slowly coming around and bracing himself to more coming soon. I don't bug him about golf so it's all good! :)
Thanks for your responses all
Hee hee! This time two years ago I hadn't even considered a reptilian pet... a friend of mine at work said 'you should see this neat little lizard over at the petstore' and I did and bought it (she never told me that she was going to buy it. This started a running joke that whatever she liked I was going to buy :P), but then fell in love with the little guy... (he's a holaspis guentheri) and almost got some beardies... but got a leo instead, and haven't regretted it! Now I'm in the final phase of thegottahaveits... snakes! I'm incureable now! And I LOVE it!! :D

Ah yes...herp fever, at first I was deathly afraid of snakes and threatened to kill the ball python we found in the yard. But then she grew on me...now I have her and 2 boas, and Im getting a bearded dragon. Everytime we get an open tank in the house Im thinking about what I can put in it. Me and my mom are trying to convince my dad into converting the garage into a snake room for me. Is anyone elses room like 10 degrees hotter because of the heat lamps? I sleep with a fan on in the dead of winter...lol.

I'm a very lucky person. I wanted a snake collection all my life (Not too many mind you, 2 maybe 3 hundred or so) but my g/f had nitemares just seeing one on TV. Since we lived together this was a real prob.
I brought home a Pueblan hatchling one day for her to see, and when I finally got her down from the maple tree in the back yard, she had to admit it was cute.
To make a long story short (if thats possible at this point), she now shares the livingroom with anywhere from 20 to 30 snakes, depending on whats going on.
Of course, her Prozac bill is killing me.
prozac maybe thats what my wife needs to let snakes in the house anyone no a good vet thatle prescribe that hehe
as for the gotta haves yeah this sites getten to me to
i live right by a tennis court and Oscar finds at least 1 ball per day
i have to bring them in to work for people
Oscar doesn't like to share either but he doesn't sound as bad as Bobby :)
He freaks out when Charlie takes his ball and he'll chase Charlie around and around until he gets really tired. Then he'll look at me as if to say, "Can't you see that I'm having trouble here?! Will you help me or not?!"
They have such great expressions!
I can't understand how some people can just have 1 Boston
