well, I never thought i'd do this. But i have a pet rat. I originaly bought it as a feeder but she wouldnt eat him and he was cute and friendly so i kept him:rolleyes: Probably not the best idea seeing my parents hate rodents. I'm such a sucker for a cute face o> .

Congrats on the new pet! That's one of the risks no one mentions with feeding live, the risk of possibly getting attached to the feeders! LOL! I started raising rats as feeders, BIG mistake! I don't have a problem "offing" the mice but the rats are left for my boyfriend to deal with, I just can't do it. They do make good pets though, my daughter had one that knew his name and would come when he was called and would sit beside her on her bed and eat popcorn with her while she watched movies. Pretty cute.

Yup, I know exactly what you mean. I bought a trio of rats this last summer to use as breeders and they were friendly too, I got so attached I spoil them just as much as the snakes, maybe more since they get about 4 or more treats a day. lol, and the two females recently had a litter each and I just couldn't off them. I now have 18 furry little babies that have just started opening their eyes. I'm keeping a few females for future breeding once I get males to go with them and finding homes for the others. I also had to ask a friend if he would off them for me in the future because I just can't do it. Funny it bothers me a bit with the mice but nothing like the rats. I just can't do it! lol.

Congrats on the new pet, if I tried to feed live id probably keep them all- dont foget to wash up, and maybe a shirt change between pets, so your snake doesnt think you are a snack :)

rats make great pets! I used to have a small black female rat who would follow me around in my old apartment. She was so cool!

I was really looking to get like a 1.2 trio of rats for breeding and pets, but the rents would throw me out of the house :p

I needed to switch my bp over to rats and I bought one that was sorta to big, but I think that was my excuse because I just couldnt put him in the tank :D

edit: I like your columbian red tails name btw ;)

Lolz, I know what you guys mean. well I dont really care to much for many rats or rodents, but this rat I dont know he's special I guess, he has the personality of my dog that passed away a year ago. He's got real personality. I want to teach him tricks lolz "PLAY DEAD!" thats my goal.

I like your columbian red tails name btw ;) Lolz and thanks again. Pink floyds awsome:p

LOL just wait... the 'pet collection' WILL grow :p They always start with just one 'feeder' and grow. Rats are fun pets, and so smart and interactive - it's hard not to get attached sometimes!
