Suggestions?

I m goonig to be getting a bigger tank for my snake soon and that means that I m goint to have an empty tank.

So I ve been thinking that I want to start keeping lizards. I m not sure what to get though. I ve got a 30 gal. long tank, and I want to get something that I could keep 2 or 3 of.

I ve been looking at Chinese Water Dragons and also Beardies but, still not to sure.

I just wnated some thoughtful advice.

for a 30 gallon you can easly put a trio of leopard geckos, a bunch of northern/south western/western fence lizards, side bloched lizards would be awesome in there, armadillo (spelling) lizards would be good, they live in groups really well, a mali uro might be good too. before buying any thing always read as much about it as possible.

All gecko species could live in groups fine in your cage, all North American lizards.

Almost anything the size of 12 inches:)

There are MANY species that could live in that tank even in groups. bearded dragons and water dragons both will be to large for that tank. You will have too do some more research and find out more specifically what your interested in. try looking around for what is available first, then look up specific care for each of the species you come across.

i would suggest leos or fatties, because both are very attractive and easy to care for, excellent beginner lizards. i personally perfer fatties because they are calm right out of the egg, although leos are a bit more active and fun to watch. but there are many other species of ground gecko that would do well in a trio, in that size enclosure, such as helmeted, pictus, and viper geckos. or knob tails. the list is endless. if you're not into geckos, anoles or sandfish could do well also. sandfish are so cool!

leos and fatties are a good fit. Smaller Uromastyx species should be fine as well, and they are very cool lizards. I dont know the dimensions of a 30 long, but as it's a long, I suspect it's better for terrestrials than for arboreals.

Thanks for the info guys. It's much apreciated. Beardies and Water Dragons are beautiful creatures but, I dont think that I would be able to provide enough space for them as yet.

Coincedentaly I was looking at Anoles today and they seemed like would be really interesting to keep.

Also I was wondering what type of Uros you were talking about. I was under the impression that all Uros get pretty big.

Ya, you could get a wire lid with the little door and flip the tank on it's end so that it will be an arboreal instead of terrestial. :D You can feed crickets in a seperate container or put them in a glass dish inside the tank or feed baby food and cgd. Cresteds are awesome, and addictive. lol.

I'd stay away from uros unless you're willing to get a tank that's about 4' x 2' at least for most species. Some are a little smaller, but even they reach around 11" in length, and need much more space than a 30 gallon!!!

Thanks agian for all the info. I thought I d tell you that I finally made my decision. I picked up a female Crested Gecko and a Female Striped Gargoyle from Prehistoric Pets.

I liked both these guys and couldn t choose one over the other so I got both. After careful research and a lot of questions we decided that they should be able to live happily together. I m going to keep a careful eye on them for a while though just to be sure.

I ll post some pics in the appropriate section as soon as I can.

Oh oh.... gargoyles love crestie tails for dinner. Gargoyles eat small cresties in the wild. I accidentally put a baby gargoyle into the wrong critter keeper - in with a couple of newly hatched cresties. The gargoyle wasn't in there 60 seconds before I removed him, but he had enough time to grab a crestie tail for lunch. Even though the two species live together in the wild, the gargoyles are way too predatory to live with a crestie in captivity. They might be okay for a while, but once they've settled in, the gargoyle will be stalking the crestie for her tail.

Take that thirty gallon long, buy some plexi glass and aquarium silicone and cut a piece of plexi that will fit in the middle. Silicone it in. Let it cure an dmake sure it has cured! And voila, you can keep both in the same tank but different areas. Keep it on it's side tho vertically so it's tall. Hopefully ur crestie still has it's tail!
