Has anyone heard of Opal corns? Im debating a corn as my purchase at the upcoming show in my state, but im so bad at all these morphy things, though. They all look pretty to me. I like BRIGHT colors and defined patterns, considering okeetee. Cant seem to find any pics of opal corns just references to the name.

When they come up with a BLUE variation, someone tell me!

If you have pics of Opal corns, please post one for me so I can see what they look like ;)

Thanks-

Artemis

To me an opal looks like a really shinny, opally, pinky looking snow. But yes I guess there is such a morph.

Opal is a morph that combines the homozygous lavender and homozygous amelanistic. Still comparatively rare - regret that I have no pics - don't have these guys but there were a few hatched in Canada this year.

Check serpenco or south mountain reptiles for pics of adults and Simon Fung (extremesnakes banner on this site) has some baby pics on his site I believe. Opals are largely white when young but develop peach to orange background color as they mature - partially dependant on the amount of orange tinges in the lavender line that produces them. Quite subtle coloration actually - so if you are into bright and dramatic like Okeetees they may not be for you - but they can be quite pretty.

opals will tend to look like a snow as adults. We saw many at the while plains show in september, and almost all of them did look like snows as adults.
When they are babies, they are suppose to look different, but never seen one yet.

I produced a clutch of Opal hets this year and I'm not even keeping any for myself. Getting out of corns altogether actually.

Wow thanks for all the pics guys. Both parents and products :)

VanderKm, im in the US, so I don't know if they are hard to find here or not. Apparently they are somewhat rare cause pics seem scarce on the net, and not all sites even mention them as a morph. I still havent decided totally what I want to do, Im trying to figure out how much money to take with me to my first show, and at least a vague idea of what, if anything, I will bring home with me. They are really pretty though, my daughter would flip for a pink snake, lol!

keep in mind the babies are not the same color as the adults. they will develop over the first year or 2. I cant really describe the colors as I have trouble seeing light pinks and such. http://www.extremesnakes.com/gallery.html <<< if you go there and select opals from the drop down menu and flip through the picks you see they lighten up similar to snow corns
