cooksoramazon??

was wondering if anyone could give me info on differences between cooks and amazons??? or point me in direction of taxonomic info

have recently got one in from a friend of mine. he says that the red eyes and salmon like colouration shows its a st vincents local. however im very sceptical....... it doesnt look like any amazon ive seen before, but ive seen pics of "amazons" with red eyes and i know they come in a great variation of colours.

Amazons come in all sorts of colour variations, not specific to any specific area, so they cannot be identified on that. One litter in itself can exhibit quite an array.

Hortulanus are rather varied in color, however it is said that cooki are only garden phase. All the pics I have ever seen of them seem to confirm that.

i know amazons are one of the most variable snakes regarding colour, put together with the fact i dont think there are any true cooks available here, is why i was so sceptical. It is a 'garden phase' with lots of white dorsaly and salmon pink towards the ventral scales. its also seems quite small. and did i mention it bites!!!!!!! lol

Chances are if you got it in from a pet store and it was sold under Cooks that it most likely is an Amazon cause thats how mine Amazon was sold to me was under the species name Cooks Which it clearly isn't LoL its a Garden Phase Amazon. And yes i'd say watch out for those teeth they fling at anything I've already been bitten and all i can say is ouch. Not to mention its almost gotten me in the face and crotch area. Talk about heat seekers.

no it came from a good friend of mine thats recently sold his collection to go abroad. im aware of the problem with amazons being sold as cooks over here, i take it its the same over there then?? lol

I remember quite awhile back I was told that there were a few people in Europe are working with true cookii. That said still the majority are indeed hortulanus. ;)
