I agree with MormonBoa, that looks like a pastel to me. Whatever it is though that's a nice boa.

Thanks for the comments, normal ??????If its normal, most pics I see of boas are much different hummm.I'm not new at this.Over 10 years now. What do you call a hypo then?

Hypo meaning Hypomelanistic means lacking or a reduction in black or brown pigment on the animal.

Hypo usually is called a salmon boa, but the salmon term was coined by Rich Isle of www.salmonboa.com

Here is my "hypo" salmon
http://www.ssnakess.com/photopost/data/500/1834100_0014-med.JPG

See how the black is pretty much all gone. Now there are some that have a bit of dark pigment left, but you can deffinitely still tell the difference in my opinion.

Yours looks more like a normal to me as well, but a very very nice lookin one.

IMO, hypo/salmons' tails are more pinkish/peachy than red, often outlined with yellow/white. See how your boa's tail has the black outline ? Salmons/hypos tails are very distinctive, like this.

See the difference? I'd say you have a pastel. Not much of a price difference from a low grade hypo so you didnt get ripped off to bad.

The reason that most pics look quite different is it is hard to find very nice normals, most Colombians out there end up being quite dark and dingy looking as they mature. Ideally, only the last 4 saddles on the tail should have any black in a hypo. Click here for some very nice 'pastels' belonging to Jared Douglas. Not hypos, just 'souped up' normals. Your snake is VERY nice, but not a hypo. Finding a deserving mate will be quite a task!

Your snake is absolutely a pastel. It fits the description Jeff Ronne gave for pastels to the letter. Certainly not a co-domainant hypo boa though. I'm curious as to who sold it to you as a "hypo" as well.

salmons i believe are hypo x pastel, giving them thier enriched color...as a normal hypo may not be all that colorful, it will look a lot like a normal, minus the a lot of black pigment. but no, that is not a hypo...but it would go well with a hypo breeding.

This is not true actually. Salmons are "Hypo" the only person that actually started calling them salmons was Rich Isle.

Now alot of people breed there salmons with pastels just to enhance the color even more, but a hypo is a hypo and there is still a big difference from a normal.

If you go to www.salmonboa.com there is a good readup on how the "hypo" salmon boa came to be.

Looks like both of my normals, which people have asked me if they are pastels, I'm not calling them anything but normals untill I see my first litter. I agree with others that it has too much black to be a hypo. It seems like a lot of people are calling nice Colombians hypos or pastels these days. Aren't there any more really nice normal Colombians any more? Why is it all of a sudden anything that looks nicer than a dark Colombian has to be a morph. Selectivly bred Colombians get nicer with every generation, doesn't mean they are a morph does it?
Here is the male I'm using this year,

Not a great pic but he has all the pink in the world. Again I think you snake looks like a pastel at best but I don't think it's hypo. But don't take our word for it, look them up on line.
Cheers,
Trevor

We'd like to thank everyone for they're comments. If she is a pastel, we feel special anyways. She's very pretty and we look forward to breeding her in the future.
Linds: We agree with your comment that finding a mate for her will be hard, but searching is the fun part right?
Thanks to you all.

Salmon hypo's are much different then normal hypo boas normal hypos have that black ring around the tail that fades with age that should be the only black on a normal hypo.

There is no way that is a pastel boa i breed a screamer normal male colombian to an adult hypomalinstic female.

Not a pastel or a salomn boa.
