I have a motley snow corn, she is approx 2 and a half years old. When she is just laying there, her body is always kinked up, like a bunch of little s's going down her spine. Whether she is straightened out, or coiled up, her body always does this. Even when I got her as a hatchling. She is very active and healthy, and eats well, so I am not too concerned. Just wondering what might cause it. Do some corns just prefer laying that way?

I bought a pair of corns off of a breeder for like $10 each. They both had a few kinks in them and thats why she sold them so cheap. She told me that it was from variations of heat during incubation. I could be wrong but that was what I was told. It would make sense tho. The two I bought are both 2 years old now and you can't even notice the kinks until you feel for them. Even then its hard to find them. I was told that some grow out of it and others don't. I don't think it effects their lifespan or health or anything so I wouldn't worry about it.

I dont think her spine is actually kinked. Cuz its different each time and she does straighten out. I think she just likes laying all curved like that.

Some of my snakes lay like that too, when I'm handling them or if they're moving they're normal. Some snakes just like laying kinked, I guess.

Being relatively new to snakes, I don't know much about the actual bone kinks. I think they can grow out, not always, but sometimes...

An actual kink in the spine, be it a birth defect or injury, is permanent.

Kinks in cornsnakes are genetic. Breeding them will cause more kinked animals. They wont go away as they get bigger. It is a spinal disorder. Always report kinks to seller if you did not buy a animal that was sold as a kinked snake. This way you get your money back or replacement animal.

I think I am not explaining what I mean by kinked. I have a pic of her for you guys. How do I upload pictures on here?

There are directions on how to upload pics in the forum with directions on the home page -

I think I have seen what you are talking about - many of my corns lie like that when they are in a hidebox but sometimes just when they are stretched out in their tanks - they like to have their body touching the side of the tank or hidebox and seem to form a repeating S shape to be touching the sides. They straighten out as soon as they move somewhere. This is just a behaviour thing - very different from kinks in the spine that you can feel are bony changes.

Pics would be great though - snow motleys are so pretty - I have a little one that is growing like a weed now!

I was too impatient, so I started a new thread with the pics posted. See the kinky snake pics forum.
