Injured bird...

Hey.. a few days ago we noticed a pigeon on our balcony with an injured wing.. we've been giving it some gerbil/bird seed and some water and minimizing interaction.. is there anything we can do to help it get better? the injury doesn't look like a broken wing, just a cut or something.

I know next to nothing about birds, so any other suggestions as to what we can do to help? I'd perfer not to bother the humane soceity or other agencies simply because I'm sure they have more important things to spend their resources on then a pigeon.

Right now, i'm just thinking i'll feed it and give it water and let nature do it's thing.

It sounds like the bird will do just fine. With access to food, water, and shelter it should heal quickly on it's own :)

I agree with capsicum. Just kind of watch for any infection --if you notice any you could take a trip to the vets. Best of luck to you and the birdie!

I am presuming the bird cannot fly, as you were able to catch it. If that is the case, it may have some of the more delicate bones in the wing broken. Where is the cut on the bird? Is it on a wing?They take time to mend, if they mend at all. What you are doing for the bird sounds great, once you feel like it is stronger and ready to go free, take it outside and give it a shot.

i would let nature take its corse feed lots of hole corn it helps keep birds worm and he should heel fine on it own after all piggons have een hoer for over 150 years and look out side and see how many thare arebest of luck with himdont feed to much or you illhave twomanyin no time comming by to feed off of your good nature Paul

Well, i went to check on it again today and it was gone. So i suppose the seeds and water helped it recover and heal so it could fly away.

i'm not a fan of pigeons, but i'm still happy that it was able to recover.

good to here .Im not a pigeon fan my self but my father keeps over 200 racing homers and loves them like we love ower herps lol .I will tell him tomorow he will be happy that you could help a bird that you dident eavon like thanks to people like your self this world my not be as bad as we think

It was very little to do. just give it seeds and water with minimal interaction. the only time i actually interacted with it to get it out of an aquarium it somehow got itself into.

i'm not looking forward to cleaning the mess off the balcony. it left quite the mess.
