good cages and reputable companies?

Hi! I'm new to this forum and I've been looking for an upgrade to my cham's enclosure. I have a baby panther. The cage I would like to get is an aluminum screened cage 2'x2'x4' and I've seen 2-3 I'm interested in. I just don't know if the companies are reputable.

they are:

LDS company in florida and
The chameleon condo
Scales (exotic lizards.com)

If anyone knows or has had contact with any of these companies, I'd appreciate your advice.

Hey Thrush,

You might want to reconsider aluminum screen. A big species like Pardalis can very easily rip its toe nails out if they get caught in the screen. Some cages makers offer some flexible mesh's.

Yay! More Ottawa chameleon people :D

I'd also rethink the aluminum screening.

I have my male pardalis in a large cylindrical cage with flexible (plastic?) mesh made by JD Terrariums...I highly recommend them for any caging.

If you're not out for anything that extravagant you can always try a reptarium, available at any petstore. I keep my female pardalis in one of these for now.

Im gonna play devels advacate here and say this... with a good amount of climbing things you can avoid screen climbing but sometimes u get chams that wont stay off the screen no matter what u do, some of my cages are aluminum screen and some are hardware cloth both have worked well for me and both have there drawbacks.

I was hoping that with an aluminum cage I could rest the lights directly on the cage and not have to suspend them. They seem much more solid than the flexible cages and also easier to get in and out of. Any other pros and cons I should know about?

What about a PVC coated wire mesh cage. Holes are bigger, mesh is coated so there is no nose rub problems and nail tear out. Just another option, but the material is not cheap.

these days nothing really is cricket proof, but if you have lots of room you shouldnt have a problem. Another thing is that if you chameleon starts to climb on walls hes starting to get bored of the enclosure of he doesnt like at all. But you cant prevent this from happen, maybe besides adding more sticks and such

If I were to work with the larger species again I would go with the PVC coated option. Yes the holes are larger which has alot of benefits. If you got with 1/8" spacing you should have no problem with escaping crickets. Another nice things about the larger holes is if you keep the cage outside in the summer month (pun) you can easily clean the bottom with a hose.

They are a good cage to use outside during the summer as well. Lets lots of sun in due to the bigger holes, plus it is light weight for easy moving.
