Ok, all the talk about parasites and stool samples and vets makes me wonder what the heck do they do in the wild if they get a parasite? I mean its survival of the fittest, what dont kill ya makes you stronger..can they overcome these things or will they just kick the bucket...I mean I cant run to the vet every time Reggy gets a stomach ache, and I dont think Pepto bismol is going to do the trick..hehe. Im not feeding him pepto..by the way are there any home remedies that can be used to help battle these problems naturally.........Oh by the way Reggy(my BP) puked on oct 7,2002 and he has been drinking water regularly.I have not held him since and Im sad, Im patiently waiting for a 2 week period to feed him and hopefully hell keep it down...sorry I got long winded...........WALTOR... all of yall rock, thanks
umm, well I know that snakes very easily get mites in the wild, and they survive with them, the thing is when you're holding yor snake, do you really want mites crawling all over you?? Yuck, I hate those things!! And, I dunno about this, but I think eventually they would get to the people in the house. But thats all I can tell ya! :D

Its not about NOT having parasites in the wild. They do. Its about not being PARASITE LOADED in the wild. They move all the time. They breathe fresh air, drink new water, do not slither through their poop until their kind keeper removes it. They eat a myriad of food items and they have access to UV light (which kills a TON of baddies). In a cage in your basement (or wherever), where the heck is a WC snake going to go to get away from all these nasty things? Ummm....no where, because it can't! And that's why they become parasite loaded in captivity. Maybe they do in the wild as well?!! But why don't we see them? Unmm......that would be because they are dead.

No problem man!
If you feed your snakes frozen/thawed rodents and give them clean water, and don't house them with wild-caught stuff, they won't get parasites.
Given the right conditions, reptiles are bullet-proof man. They really are.
Good luck buddy!

I heard people telling me that the snakes stomach acid will kill any parasites in live rodents, just wondering if its true or not.

I don't know the stats but I'm sure that animal that have clutches of eggs do so because of a higher mortality rate. In the wild they don't all make it...but we won't stand for that in captivity so we do our best to give them the best chance to survive and thrive.
Mites and ticks suck blood and get into the eyes and every where. This causes a lot of stress which affects the health. Imagine having mites in your eyes and not having hands to wipe them out....gives me the heebee geebees...:)
