View Full Version : Anyone have experience with butterworms?
Just wondering if youd share thoughts/opinions/experiences.
What are you looking to find out?
They don't taste like butter, that's for sure! They don't taste awful, but none of my guys like them. They ate them at one time though. They are a nice addition to a reptile regular diet, if your reptile will indeed take them. They are a good source of calcium, and although they are supposed to be goof for picky eaters, it basically just boils down to each animals personal interest. I know many others who also will not take them, but some people have good luck with them. They keep forever in the fridge, and I've even had them last as long as 4 months at room temperature! Butterworms are irradiated before being exported from their home of Chile, to prevent them from pupating in to moths, hence they cannot be bred here.
I bought a few at the last show....my herps all loved them. But they had never had them before so they were probably like "Alright! NEW food!" LOL
My Tarantulas showed so so interest, but my Golden Geckos, Pac Man frog etc, went nuts over them.

I've tried them a couple of times. My blue tongued skink loves them. My leopard geckos will eat one occassionally, but will not eat them always. They still prefer their mealworms.
Thanks guys, just wanted to see what folks had to say about them in general is all:)
