This is an often asked question of which there is no "solid" answer as yet. "Red Tail" Boa is a common name, applied to Boa constrictors with varying degrees of red in their tail. Wild caught boas with this red colouration have been found throughout their range. With the amount of subspecies crossing that is going on in the hobby now, in the past and in the future, it is impossible to say exactly what a "true" red-tail is. It's all in the eye of the beholder.
True Redtails are BCC, but back in the day in an effort to make more money, dealers started labelling BCI as redtails as well. I personally do not agree with BCI being labelled as redtails. 2 subspecies should not share the same common name, it creates alot of confusion (lol...not to mention a pain when you are browing the classifieds to find a BCC and most of the links you click labelled "redtail" reveal a picture of a BCI  ). I believe there is a form of BCC exported from Colombia, though it isn't commonly available, and for the most part when you see something labelled as a Colombian "Redtail" it a BCI, not a BCC. BCC are the true form of redtails. Hope this helped :)
yuppers, I think I understood most of it! :) Im still working on the sub specie names and all that stuff!! THANX! :D
if the "Colombian" red tail is a BCI, what locallity is used to denote a BCC ?
