Odd question.

Do snakes have sex for pleasure? Yes, I know, very weird question. I house my two BPs together and they mate quite often and I have never seen anything become of it. They do it so often that I was just wondering if they were just doing it for the sake of doing it lol. If anyone has any idea about why I haven't seen any babies popping up, feel free to comment. Thanks.

My female is 4 and about 4 feet and my male is 2 and about 3 feet so I don't think they're immature.

How can I have two males when I've seen them mating? lol.

Think about it... gross. JK I'll bet that you have a pair and not gay snakes. No idea about the lack of eggs though. Could it have anything to do with temps? Perhaps she was stressed and has reabsorbed her follicles?

Haha yeah. That would be a little..strange.. lol. Well I keep my temps between 80-90. But I thought that they wouldn't breed if temps and everything weren't right? Also she was stessed and reabsorbed her what-icles? I'm not in on the whole breeding terms and everything lol. Sorry.

Oh I also find something else that is strange. I'll take them both out and let them go wherever on my bed and my female stays right by him. It's like they're attached at the tail. She always tries to get his attention by rubbing her body and head on him but he pays no attention to her. Talk about a bad relationship lol.

well, since sex is physically pleasurable for people, it wouldnt be surprising if it was for other animals, too. If you arent trying to breed them, though, and you don't know anything about breeding, Id give them separate housing.

Well there is a statement that says only Humans and dolphins have sex for pleasure which means snakes dont, but I dont believe half of these theories that scientists chuck out these days, so maybe they are doing it for pleasure. Who knows. Maybe you just got a damn horny male!!!!

I have been reading a lot lately on breeding Regius. I too am fairly new to this whole thing, however, I have done my homework. Just so we are clear ~ I READ THIS ABOUT THE BREEDING PROCESS OF BALL PYTHONS ~ Greatest breeding success occurs when you keep the two sexes seperate, until winter breeding monthes. If they are kept together, seperate them for one month prior to winter breeding monthes; reduce feeding in late November, and stop feeding in december; reduce lighting to 9-10 hours a day for December, January, and February; reduce temperature to low of 69-71 F at night, with bask area of 80 F; high of 72-75 F during the day, with bask area of 85 F during those three winter monthes; After March1st increase lighting and temperature to normal summer levels; start feeding heavily; Ovulation causes midbody swelling; most females stop eating from this point until the eggs are deposited; 3 weeks prior to the deposit, she will shed her skin; small clutches of large eggs are to be expected; healthy average sized females may lay from 3 to 8; incubate at 87-90 F, 90-95 % humidity, for almost 2 monthes!

Well that would make sense as to why I haven't seen any babies. I didn't think that keeping them together would cause them to not have any. Weird. Well at least I think so. Thanks for the info :).

I thought someone had mentioned males attempting to mate with other males before? I have two that were rescues and their previous owner had seen them breeding but no eggs were produced since both were under/at 1000g if one was a female she would not have laid anyway too small. When I had them probed though whiplash was a definate male while recoil was deeper than a female but short for a male? Possibly recoil is a girl then? Would be nice that would give me two breeding size females this year!!

Hmm.. well that's weird. I've never heard of males attempting to mate with other males. I know that my female is infact a female because the people that I got her from probed her infront of me. My male I'm not positive about because I didn't get him probed because the people that I got him from (well known breeder around here) told me that they knew that he was a male.
