View Full Version : common question but curious
How often do you feed your Corns under a year old. The reason I ask is out of curiousity because some people seem to feed hatchlings 2 or 3 times a week while others tend to stick to the 5-7 day feeding schedule. Some also feed 2 or even 3 pinks at a time while others go with the regular 1 pinky per feeding.
I know there is a lot to consider and not all snakes would be on the same feeding schedule but in general for a healthy Corn what do you feel is the best feeding schedule and why. Start with hatchlings and work your way up to adults.
I feed every 5-7 days for hatchlings and 10-14 days for adults~!!

I just switched my guys from the every 4 day schedule to once every 7 days because I noticed with the every 4 day feeding they were not even close to as interested (still ate) as once a week.

My baby corns are now taking fuzzies.... they were born in late july. I feed every 5-7 days, and have no problems with regurges or lack of interest.

We offer every 4-5 days for those taking pinkies, every 5 days when they are on fuzzies and move to weekly when they are on hoppers.
How fast they move up depends on how fast they grow. We usually offer a larger pinky for their third meal, then move up to a couple pinks for 2-3 meals. They get offered a fuzzy after their second shed if they are big enough.
Some of this summer's hatchlings are on fuzzies, some still on a single pinky per meal - a lot depends on the size of the snake and how anxious it is to feed. Our rootbeers (great plains rats X creamsicle corns) started on large fuzzies this year and it doesn't even show a lump the next day. May have to give them hoppers for their third meal.

Thanks for the replies. I have been feeding every 5-7 days as well for my 2 month old Corns. I sometimes feed 2 pinks at a time as well. I was just curious as to what everyone eles feeds but it seems most have it on a 5-7 day feeding basis with great results.
Thanks, Hooter

At what age do you guys consider them adults - and what do you feed your adults?

We consider everyone over breeding age (3 years) to be adults but really have no rules about how often or how much the adults get - that really depends on individual condition, time of year and size. One breeding female corn gets an adult mouse a week, another female is twice her size and takes small rats.
For us, in general, everyone between 6 months of age and their first breeding (actively growing snakes) is offered food weekly with the meal size large enough to give a visible lump that lasts for a couple days. Once they are breeding size, they get fed according to their body condition and phase of production - breeding males don't eat at all, bred females get a lot more after breeding, less as they approach egg laying, etc.
Most adults that aren't breeding get a small meal every week, with occasional weeks skipped, and occasional larger meal (they are the garbage cans so good to keep them a bit hungry).
