BCC (the true redtails) have more pointed noses, and less than 21 dorsal markings including tail. BCI (common boas, insular boas, etc.) will have more than 21 dorsal markings.

Guyanas; which are BCCs, will have a more purple colouration to them, and their tails are typically a dark rich purple or red.

Surinams; which are also BCCs usually having bright red tails.

BCIs can have nice red tails, but they usually end up looking burnt orange.

Also the tempermant between the two is different, BCCs tend to be more agressive than BCIs. I have 4 BCIs and 2 BCCs (1 Guyana and 1 Surinam), my BCCs have both lashed at me or others, but, my BCIs have not. My BCCs also seem 'pushier' when handling. Invictus' little BCC likes to put on a hissy display when we peek in on her.

And lastly, the size between the two is different; BCCs get bigger (both the males and females).

There is really no size difference between the two subspecies, and in fact, there are many people out there that believe they are the same subspecies, just different locales (I'm still with the thought that they are different however). The differences between the two are minimal and blurred at best. Generally Bcc tend to be more colourful, but there is no rule to this. Saddle counting is unreliable these days in identifying Bcc, since people now are breeding Bci to have fewer saddles. I've encountered just as many snappy Bci as I have Bcc, but I find Bcc tend to be more insecure as far as handling goes. It is harder to find Bci that will mature in to nice looking adults compared to Bcc, as most of them tend to get dingy looking. There are several locales of Bcc to choose from. Suriname and Guyanese Bcc are the same snake... some might say Guyanas are purple, while Suris are pink, but it can go either way. Peruvians tend to have more of a yellowish colouration to them. The others are not commonly offered for sale. Bci have many locales to choose from, but I'm assuming you were speaking of Colombians when you asked this question, as they are also commonly called "redtails". There are however, several other locales, such as Hog Isle, Mexicans, Crawl Cay, etc. They have a more varied appearance/size. Anyways, my advice to you, is find whichever visually appeals to you the most, and go from there ;)
