View Full Version : Fox Snake Life Span???
Hi Friends
Can anyone tell me the life span on a Fox snake, Eastern and Western. I have one that is almost 3 years old, and from what I've read, they are suppose to be docile creatures, but I'm here to tell you, the one I have is anything but docile, He is into everything, and I mean everything. I named him Nosey, because he is never still, very, very active. Is this natural?????
Any help would be great
God Bless

yes, that behavior is normal, different individuals have different personalities. i dont know the average lifespan for vulpina, but a friend of mine has an eastern who is sixteen years old. he is showing his age tho.

Docile and inactive are two very different things. To be called "docile" doesn't mean that the animal lies in its cage and doesn't do anything. Most Ratsnakes are very inquisitive by nature, actively searching their quarters for escape routes. However, most ratsnakes are very tractable and docile as well, that is, they can be readily handled. Fox Snakes are very active so your animal's behaviour is normal and you shouldn't worry. If your Fox Snake isn't attacking you when you try to handle him then he conforms to the norm and is a docile animal.

P.S. This was not a docile Fox Snake:

Thanks much for the input Friends. Mine is an Eastern Fox, and I was worried that being 3 years old, I didnt have much time left with him.....I get very attatched to my babies and, I have never been one to get an animal for a pet that has a life span of less then 20 years. being 40 myself, my hope is to out live them........LOL Parents shouldnt bury their children. I know that sounds corny but I take my pets very seriously, since I dont have any children of my own.
Thanks again for all your help
God Bless
