I need a thermostat and a day-night timer and was planning on purchasing a
Zoo Med 500R thermostat with probe and an ESU power center.

This is for use in a 10gal tank with a heat pad.

I'm new to actually keeping snakes so was wondering if these are decent products?

Thanks.

My opinion - You'd be better off buying a timer (10 - 15 bucks), digital thermometer (7 bucks) and a lamp dimmer (10 bucks) separately.

Welcome by the way! :)

Let me make sure I understand exactly what you're saying.

You say go ahead and get the timer + a digital thermometer. That part is pretty clear.

I'm unfamiliar with the lamp dimmer though.

Thanks.

I've purchased these at Ikea and Canadian Tire. Obviously you can't go to Canadian Tire but maybe Walmart has them...

I've used the ESU thermostats. Not bad little thermostats. Of corse if you want a really "hi-tech" thermostat and are willing to pay the bucks the HELIX thermostat I hear works great. Though I havent used one, my buddy has around 70 snakes and breeds most of them and says his HELIX is very helpful. Also says it sounds off alarms if the temp drops or raises beyond what you have it set to. Something like that. It's had alot of good reviews to. But ESU thermostat is good for what your usin it to do.
