As some of you know, they both took their first meal about 2 1/2 weeks ago (small rats).

and this is the female out for a photoshoot...she's 4' long and a real princess to work with, and she knows it!

and now the male..this is guy is the real star out of my pair...at 7' long from snout to tail tip, he's like the perfect model for taking pictures, i can put him in a position and he stays there for about a minute to let me take the pic! here ya go..

BTW.. how did you secure your fake plants to the walls? Hot glue?

actually what i did was took a thin piece of melamine wood, ironed on the melamine strips on the exposing wood sides, then drilled holes all down the length of it, then screwed it into the cage, then the fake plants just slide into the holes, and voila! easily removed for cleaning purposes, and put back in! works like a charm, and adds lots of green in there... glad you like the enclosure design! i have two of those cages, one fore each snake, and they stack, just like yours do, only my cages cost me... 26$ for all the wood to build it, then 13 bucks for the aquarium silicon, and then bucks for screws, and 30 bucks for the glass cut to appropriate size!, and thats it! simple, and cheap, did it all for under a 100$ and they look good to!

Hey Kimo, what is the height of that cage of yours? I'm Eventually going to build something that looks similar, a 5 feet high by 2.5 feet large and 3 feet deep. How do you keep the right humidity for such a big cage at the same time than keeping a good aeration??? At the moment, it's pretty easy for me because i use rubber-maids, but i would defenetly need help on this one!!!

well actually im glad you asked phil...cause i was never one for rubbermaids, my personal beleif is that the animals need more than just the right temps, and humidity, i feel they need a bit of nature, to help them feel more secure, and thrive better, and to prove my point on this, i have never heard of an emerald cruising around a rubbermaid bin for hours on end...and my guys do...anyways to the point, i orginally built a 4' tall x 2' deep x 2' wide enclosure, and let me tell you...it failed miserablyi either couldnt get enough air flow, and the cage started to smell stagnant, or i couldn't keep the humidity because of to much air flow...so after many attempts at various sizes, and way to much money wasted (enough for another pair of emeralds *kicks himself*) i finally came upon my current design, basically i took a foot off the height, and used small 1" holes for the ventilation approximately 10 holes on either side of the enclosure, this provided the small amount of airflow i needed to keep the air from going stagnant, while being able to, with just one misting of the complete enclosure (including substrate) maintain a humidity of 80% steady for 7 hours straight before it starts to drop, and i usually give it another small mist when this starts to happen, just to boost it up long enough to last till lights out, where naturally the humidity drops during night time hours. so basically in the end i found a good solution for the snakes, and for myself, and were both happy!

forgot to mention that these ages are stackable, 1 ontop of the other makes a perfect tower unit for two emeralds... takes up little space floor wise, and it gives them TONS of room to cruise around at night time, and these snakes do cruise....i've never seen a more active, and intresting snake to watch at night, than my pair of emmies, they'll cruise for about 2 hours or so, constantly on the move, then normally take the uppermost branch, and go into the standard S position looking down at the lower branch for food!

i'll snap some off for you tonight when the lights go out, but at the moment i have none, so keep an eye on this thread, and when i mean cruising, i mean the female in the enclosure up top you guys saw in my first post, they do that nonstop go from branch to branch for about 2 hours, but either way i'll snap more for you guys... so keep an eye out!!

Ok...as promised here are some pics of our emeralds cruising around at night time...this was basically when they started "waking up" so enjoy, the female is on the left side of the collage, and the male is on the right. they include some pics in strike mode, and some just slithering about...Let me know what you all think!
