I just recently purchased a 1 yr 2 month old crested gecko, a real gem. But I was out picking up wood for its cage, and was deciding to sanatize it in a 7% bleach / water solution this was a fresh scent bleach which i didnt notice untill after but have read since that doesnt make any difference. But for some reason i cant get the smell off of the wood ive tried everything but im thinking its the scented bleach that im smelling. Anyhow i was wondering if i should put the wood in the tank? I havent yet because i dont want him to be in there with the bleech that could possibly still be on it. Just wondering if this will effect him or not, and if so whats a better way then soaking it in clean water and scrubbing it to get the bleach off? I was thinking about baking it which i shoulda' done in the first place.

did you get the wood from outside? If so Just go pick some more and bake it this time. If you can still smell it that means their is still residue on the wood. Just to be safe i would get new stuff for mine.

I figured that would be the best idea got plenty of it back there. I've also got a question about taming him down a bit. I got him at a year and 2 months old so i dont know if it will be as easy to tame him down. I know you're not supposed to handle them in excess but when I was putting in his food dish last night i needed to get him away from the top of the tank because i knew he was about to leap out but when i went to go near him he lunged onto my hand and bit it, he quickly released and then relaxed and sat there but is there a way i can make the first response a little less... violent? :D He didnt do this when he was at the breeders house but thats more than likely the result of the car ride home I'd assume.

It sounds like you have olny had him for a couple days?? If so he probably bit you because he is scared and stressed. I olny have 6 but mine have never bitten me. Just give him a week or two without disturbing him and I am sure he will come down. I realize in your case you were just putting the food dish In, but I assure you he most likely will calm down with time.

Yeahs its only been a couple of days he already has calmed down about me putting in the food dish. Thats the only times i go into his cage other than to clean poop.
