Hi everyone, thought I’d leave a quick update on that young caiman that I had found laying on his back under his heat this morning I again woke up too find my dwarf laying near the "hot spot" of his cage lifeless but this time there was no reviving him. As far as I can tell overheating is the only thing that could have happened if he was healthy, but what I don’t understand is why he did not leave the hot spot and move too the cooler end of the cage. The cage was a few degrees higher then normal due too a new lamp that apparently was a bit hotter then the last bit even then it only brought the warm end of the water from 85F up too 90F. But that is where I found him lifeless. I have heard that caimans are talented thermo regulators so why would he stay in the heat until it killed him, or is it likely there was another cause?? I am quite disappointed in this he made such a good comeback from the first incident. I'm not sure if i will be trying another one, I was quite discouraged by this one.

if he was healthy
Didn't you say he was sick when he arrived? If he was sick it would normal for him to hug the heat. I thought you posted something about the shipping or something like that.
Either way you haven't had him very long you should contact the seller and ask for another one or some sort of compensation.
Sorry about your loss,
Trevor

Hi Trevor, I do have a post up from earlier because during my first week of owning him he did the same thing he hugged the heat until it almost killed him, luckily I checked on him and took him out of it and cooled him off and he survived it. About a week after that he seemed too begin too act normal so I thought it was just stress from shipping that caused the initial problems, I did move a week ago back too Fredericton but the crock showed no signs of stress then yesterday morning I found him in the hot spot again but this time I was too late he was dead I will contact Todd today (that’s who I purchased it off of) , and see what he says.

All new animals should be taken to a certified vet. Also, I doubt the heat killed him; If it did, there is another involving factor.
