For all of you that have blizzards...
Do you find they are more aggressive then usual?
I have a male, who when I first got him, would bite and scream and roll and leap etc.
He's tamed down amazingly well. However, he still pushes his snout into my arm/hand really hard, or mouths me instead of biting. It's really unusual. He is also quite...tense is the only way I can put it. Not edgy...
I understand fully that every gecko is different. But he seems to be a bit of an extreme.
I've heard rumors that this particular morph can be slightly aggressive. I was hoping someone with more experience with them could elaborate.

Jen all I have is blizzard hets. Hatched out one blizz this year and lost it to ANTS! I have noticed they are more aggressive and extremely wild compared to most leopards. They are just the opposite of my patternless who seem to be naturally tame.

Yeah, I noticed taht patternless leos seem to be incredibly tame, even at a very young age.

In an update, the male blizzard in question tried to mate with my hand the other day. I hadn't even been handling any females. He's a....er...special...gecko. O.o

Wow sounds like I need to use him with my het females!

My Male Blizzard/Patternless is also agressive. His name is Darwin, and when I hold him in my hand (palm flat not touching anything but his feet) he will put his chin down to rest on my palm... then he opens his mouth and attempts to bite me (this is why I keep my palm flat so he can't grab on) without provocation. This behaviour is extremely defensive for an animal that is willing sitting on my hand, and could jump off/run/walk away anytime! I have also heard the 'aggressive myth' about patternless and blizzard leopard geckos, but Darwin's behavior didn't dawn on me until just now. I guess some are prone to it!

mine are also nasty critters......will draw blood if given half the chance. Even as hatchlings they are far more stand offish than the other morphs. Maybe their neurological functions are washed out with their colour? My opinion only...

It might have something to do with the genetics. As blizzards were very inbreed to achieve the pure white colour, that they are. And somewhere along the line some neurological disfunction could have developped. Just a thought

I handle all my reptiles daily for feeding and cleaning! Besides I like to enrich them and interact with them.. I can only imagine how boring life must be inside a tank all day! =)

how about albino's behavior?

Girl, my albino leopard, tends to be high-stung, but I'm not sure if it is due to genetics or because of her age (she's under a year). I've found that ALL the female leopard geckos I've owned have been high-strung to some extent. Girl calms down with regular handling, but since she trys to jump and leap everytime I handle her I am somewhat paranoid of hurting her (an injury last year left me with nerve damage in my arms and hands). As far as being tame, she's great, and loves to take food from my hands. She doesn't seem afraid, just antisocial I guess... = )

Yup, those blizzards seem to be *special* lol. My female was very wild since I first got her at 2 months. She is over a year now and has calmed down a lot but she is still very fiesty and hates to be handled. She makes little craking sounds and sometimes sqeeks. I't kind of funny, then there are times I will pick her up to show others her strange behaviour and she will be as pleasant as the leucistics she is housed with. Figures, she just wants to call me a lier!! Little bugger! lol

My albino is the most laid back critter ever. Everything from hypos to normal to patternless are very calm for me. Especially my old (12 year old) girls.

My blizzard has tamed down considerably, but is still rather high strung. It's a little more disturbing having an 8"+ leo bite/try to mate with your hand though, even if he doesn't do it as often anymore.
