I've just fed my Cal King and while eating one of the pinkies he has swallowed 3 pieces of his sustrate Beech Chip with it. (The pinkie he was eating split and this is how the sustrate became stuck to it) The pieces he swallowed were between 1/2 cms square, I tried to pull the pieces off the pinkie but no sucess. He continued to eat two more pinkies with no problems, should I be concerned with the substrate he has eaten.? or will he manage to digest it, and pooh it out?

Thanks.

Probably no problem. They are usually able to pass small bits of substrate. If he doesn't poo in a couple weeks you might want to worry a bit. The best way to deal with this sort of thing is preventative. IE, dont feed on loose substrate. Feed out of enclosure, or put something down on top to feed them on. Even better, switch to newspaper for substrate.

I keep all snakes (hatchlings or otherwise) on papertowels. No substrate ingestion ever. Unless they eat the towels of course (has happened with CKs & Womas) Prevention goes a long way. Mark
