Hypo in new Boaphile cage.

I finally got my new boaphile all set up, I decided to put my hypo dh ghost in it. Figured I would snap a few photos, not bad for using all stuff just laying around. Stole the aspen from the rats, found a rock outside (sterilized it of course), had an extra temerature/humidity guage, heat panel, hide log. Then I added a florescent light fixture I wasnt using. I like it and she seems to like it, so we are all a bunch of happy bastards. Thanks,

I was curious about what the purpose of the aspen bedding is, if any and also whether the flourescent light will eventually be guarded in some way and if so, how? I've considered putting similar lighting in my custom cages but wondered about how safe it would be without putting some kind of barrier between the animal and the light itself.

LMFAO Matt! Mousekilla, the previous owner had her on aspen so I figured I would use it to make her feel at home, plus it looks a bit better than all newspaper. As for the light fixture, it really doesnt get that hot at all. She has come in contact with it a few times and no problems at all. Thanks.

What if she nockes the bulb out ? I would put a screen over it my self Boa's like to explore

LOL Paul, she has knocked the bulb out, actually like the first 10 minutes i had her in there. I taped the bulb to the connectors with electrical tape. I not saying a cover is a bad idea, im just trying to think of the best way to do it. Thanks.

thats how i install neon in the plastic cages i make. the neon slidde int the flaps and then it is screwed there. it cannot move from there and the plastic cover prevent the animal from getting in direct contact with the bulb. even if neon do not get really hot, better not take a chance! :) just to give you an idea!
btw your boa is looking amazing!!!!!!!!!

I designed a light holder that has protected a boa and a royal python from the bulb.
Build a box that the fixture fits in and is about 1 inch taller than the fixture with the light bulb. I used 1/4 inch oak plywood cut into strips 4" wide. Glue the box together (should have 4 sides and a bottom). Drop the light in and mount on the bottom.
Then make a frame that fits over the box using molding (L shaped).. A piece of plexi drops into the frame and is lifted over the opening of the box. Hold the cover with 4 screws.

Works great. if you want pics I can probably post them next week
