Animal Control came by today and informed me that I have to go before city council to determine if I can keep my snakes! Anyone up on laws that can give me a hand? I REFUSE to give up any of my "babies" and this could get real ugly real fast. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES will I get rid of these snakes. Someone please help. Aside from being locked and loaded any advise would be of great help. here is the link to the cities policy on "wild animals" Take a look and see what you think.

(B) Wild animals: Shall include all types of animal which commonly exist in a natural unconfined state and are usually not domesticated. This shall apply regardless of the state or duration of captivity. Such animal shall include, but are not limited to: Skunks, raccoons, bats, weasels, squirrels, opossums, ocelots, jaguars, hyenas, lesser pandas, binturongs, coyotes, wolves, hybrids, apes (gibbons, chimpanzees, orangutans, gorillas), elephants, rhinoceroses, foxes, lions, tigers, panthers, bears, alligators, crocodiles, monkeys, ostriches, emus, prairie dogs, boas, pythons, anaconda, and all forms of poisonous or constricting reptiles, and other like animals
This says that they consider constrictors as wild animals
A special use permit for the keeping or harboring of wild animals may be obtained from a duly appointed representative of the local health authority for the following exceptions:
Wild animal being kept as a pet provided the animal is not generally considered by the representative of the local health authority to be dangerous or predatory and does not pose a threat to the general public or emergency service personnel.
This states that you need a permit to keep snakes,
I guess my question to you is do you have a permit?
I do not mean to be the bearer of bad news but it looks like you should have a permit to keep snakes in your town.
I deal with ordinances and zoning laws all the time at my work (I permit gas stations for ARCO)
Let me know how it turns out

If you can convince them that your large snake rescue is a legitimate non profit organization, you probably can get permits to keep the snakes. When you go before the courts, be sure to have pictures of your caging etc, with locks and everything like that and be prepared with as much knowledge as you can to convince them you are a experienced keeper... I would also get some references from people who can vouche for your rescue etc. Good luck with this.. keep us updated.
