My fiance just called me and told me he thinks my kingsnake has a mite under his chin, under one of his scales. I have no clue what a mite looks like, let alone how to deal with it. I never noticed this before and I hold him all the time. I've had him for about 2wks. What am I supposed to look for? How do I get rid of the mite/s if thats what it is? Are they harmful? As far as I know, none of my other animals has them.
Thanks,
Jessica

A snake mite is specific to snakes only and if one of your snakes has them they probably all have them. Run a google on snake mites and then you will know if that is what you have or not. As for treatment search the site her for how to use NIX.

Okay well, if the mites were on the mice that we fed to the snakes, would they be infected?

NO snake mites are host specific, meaning that they only live/feed off snakes. They are non transferable to mamals etc. Strongly suggest running a search of this site for NIX treatment for mites, Mark
