Ssnakess members, this is Juno.

Juno, well, meet the Ssnakess members.

He's a two month old male veiled chameleon. He is in his new home and busy exploring. As you can see, he can't be too uncomfortable. He took three crickets quite easily.

He is my first reptile and has been in my care less than 12 hours. But now I am thinking, "What's next?"

Well an update on Juno.

He is doing pretty well. He has eaten 10 crickets since his arrival on Sunday evening from 4 feedings. And the first few mistings I didn't see him drink. I wasn't concerned as I read a thread on here about how veileds were shy about drinking in front of the keeper. But last night and this morning he started slurping up the water while I was still misting. Cute lil' bugger.

I did have a bit of a scare though. He is too small for some of the bigger leaves and couldn't grip them well enough. Ended up falling on the floor. I guess no one told him chameleons couldn’t fly. I was thinking of fashioning a tiny crash helmet but instead I rearranged all of the walking sticks and added the few more while I was at it. I roughed up the bamboo sticks for better traction. I also took away some of the more prominent "problem leaves". I am going to get a hole punch to make holes in the bigger leaves for him to hang on to. That should help him.

I suppose I should explain a bit on the name Juno as my former room mate questioned why I would name my male after a mythical goddess. My reasoning is it he is not named after the goddess, but actually after Juno Beach, the D-Day landing site on the coast of France. My grandpa landed there as part of the invasion. He was one of the lucky ones and made it through the war. He passed away in 1997. This past Christmas, my fiancée and myself went to France and visited Juno Beach. It was an eye-opening experience, one that I will never forget. Especially with Juno now living with me.
