Came across this section in the Highway traffic Act

:DDamn a maximum 5$ fine if you don't attach at least 2 bells to the sled or horse....

Sleigh bells

77. (1) Every person travelling on a highway with a sleigh or sled drawn by a horse or other animal shall have at least two bells attached to the harness or to the sleigh or sled in such a manner as to give ample warning sound. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 77 (1).

Penalty

(2) Every person who contravenes subsection (1) is guilty of an offence and on conviction is liable to a fine of not more than $5. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 77 (2).

Kinda makes me wanna go out and get a horse and sleigh this winter just to get a ticket. Wonder what I'd get for a first offence..$1 fine :Dlol

I know they say that if the keys are in the ignition that your screwed even if the cars off...sleigh = no keys....(hmmm).....but imagine all the oats we'ed have to purchase!!! lol

Actually, it doesn't matter if your keys are in the ignition or not. There was a case of a guy sleeping in the backseat who was charged, with the keys in his pocket. I believe the law refers to 'care and control of the vehicle'. If you possess both the keys and the vehicle, you have care and control of it. Give the keys to someone else.

Now as for the sleigh, it sounds like it'd be a vehicle under the HTA. Hard to imagine it, but it seems the penalties would be the same as for driving a car, boat, etc.

Cheers,
