I will be purchasing a young (14") JCP pretty soon here and I have a question. Would I be better off to start with a small Rubbermaid or just build a cage that it can grow into?

Small Rubbermaid. Increase the size of cage as the snake grows. Best way.

What about a 10 gallon tank? Would that work?

Yes, it could.

I was highly suggested by few not to keep it in an aquarium. As much as I want to id rather play it safe as im new to these as well :) When I bought him it came with a rubbermaid so I was lucky but try to get one, it will be cheap and save you in the long run. Then build an adult melamine cage, thats what im doing :D

Good luck with your new little guy and post pics!

Yeah you can buy them a nice rubbermaid and it will last them a while, they are not exactly the fastest growing snakes.
The rubbermaid holds in humidity as well so you don't have to mist as often.

What size Rubbermaid would you suggest (dimensions)? And where do I want to put the ventilation holes?
